4. ESSAYS:
Have you ever seen a sea slug? You probably have seen some of them either
in the sea or in the aquarium. This naked butterfly was described by Martens in 1676
and it was the first Gymnosomata without shell that has been described. Clione
is one of the sea slug which has a translucent body and small size.

Clione was named by their family name, Clionidae family, but people usually
called sea angel because of their translucent body and their wings. Clione, or known
as the sea angel is one of the pelagic sea slug. The Clione stay in a cold region. They
usually live in North Pacific and North Atlantic. The reason why they live in the
northern sea is because the food chain in the southern sea is not very good. Clione
stay at the surface to greater than 500 meter only. They have a barrel shaped body
with paddle like wings. They are also very small even though they grow into adult.
They have two subspecies of Clione which the size will be different when they grow
up. One of them will be around 7 to 8.5 centimeters and another one will be around
1.2 centimeters long. The largest species is the Clione limacina. The size of the larvae
is only 0.15 millimeters. They have no external gills. The translucent body of the
clione makes it able to see their guts and their orange-red coloration on the tail in
the dark. The wing of the sea angel is developed from the foot of the gastroped and
they also lost their shells. The clione is very gelatinous.

In conclusion, Clione is a small sea creature but it filled with beauty. It is the
only one species in the Clionidae family that have wings and translucent body.
