Let us consider the example of the mobile phones. In earlier days mobile phones
only served as phones which would serve as a talking and hearing device.Later on
there was an in-built camera.Then there were music , mp3 players, recording
facility, video facility, hand held computing capabilities and so on. Today mobile
phones are more than an all purpose device and has got immense utility
value.Today, people just cannot live without a mobile phone.People can live
without their wives, however not without their mobile phones.Who will not be
attached to a servant who can do so many chores at the same time.However the
mobile phones are also candidates that cause severe entanglement and also
cause brain cancer.One cannot live without the mobile phone, but one needs to
pay a hefty price to own it.

The biggest illusion that man is lured into is that “I am this body and everything
that is connected or related to the body is mine”.This gives rise to false ego.But as
one goes on hearing Hari Katha in the association of sincere devotees, from
proper sources, that is , from bonafide authorities and with a proper submissive
attitude, with utter eagerness and attention , this transcendental Medicine
gradually humbles one down.This completely eradicates this formidable
illusion.Life changes from a self-centered life to a life that is centered around
Krishna.One becomes spiritual in all respects.Ordinarily it is almost impossible to
control the mind. Arjuna reveals this fact to the Supreme Lord in the Bhagavat
Gita.The most well cultured, the best of the warriors who had the utmost control of
his senses;who even after seeing Urvashi , the queen among the apsaras,
accepted her as his mother rather than gettting sensually attracted by her and
offered his obesainces unto her.The very same Arjuna admits to the Lord that his
mind was flickering and that he felt it was impossible to control the mind.He told
the Llord that his mind was very agitated and was most obsitnate. He said that he
could easily control the raging wind in a jiffy but not the mind.Krishna Katha ,
however is so absorbing that it easily captures the mind and engages it.It is
extremely easy to focus on the wonderful pastimes of the Lord.This of course

happens when we continuously hear the glories of the Lord and chant His
transcendental names.This is the confidential philosophy of the Krishna
Cosciousness Movement.Maharaja Ambarisha was completely absorbed in the
activities that were connected with the Lord. The Lord’s pastimes and Name
removes the six demons from the heart namely Lust,Anger,Greed,Pride,Envy and
Illusion.Krishna Katha is a sure medicine to cure and drive away these demons
from the heart. These frailities of the heart are rendered powerless when one
continuously hears Krishna Katha.There were some devotees who could never
give up bad habits.The Chanting of the Holy Name of Lord Sri Krishna was
enough for them to say “NO” to these fatal addictions and they went on to become
great devotees of the Lord.

People who walk on earth today , are living dead, walking like ghostly beings
simply because they have not tasted Krishna Katha.These beings are haunted by
obnoxious thoughts that simply complicate their entanglements in the material
conception of life.All auspicious things start happening only after we start chanting
the holy name, when we start hearing Krishna Katha.Our heart is like the Lotus
Flower.There are some Lotus flowers that blossom when the sun shines.There are
some Lotus flowers that blossom when the moon comes up in the sky.The heart
of a being is like the closed Lotus flower.This flower only blossoms when in the
sky of our heart , the moon of the holy name appears.This is the only way by
which purification can happen.Every being moving on the surface of the earth is
utterly fearful.The Glutton is fearful of diseases.People who are proud of the family
are fearful of being without a son who will continue the family.Those who have a
lot of wealth are afraid of the Government , who will burden them with all kinds of
taxes.One who is honored in society is fearful of dishonour or disrepect.One who
is powerful is afraid of a competitor who will overpower him.One who has a
beautiful body is afraid of old age.The whole of the Cosmetic Industry is booming
on this fear factor.Anyone who has a body is afraid of death.Everyone in this world
is afraid except the one who hears Krishna Katha.

Parikshit Maharaja told Sukadeva Goswami to continue singing the glories of the
Supreme Lord although it was the seventh day on which he was ordained to die by
a snake bite.Maharaja Parikshit said “Let that Snake which , as ordained by the
brahmin lad , come and bite me to death , I do not care , O great Sage , please
continue to pour the nectar of Krishna Katha and let me drink it copiously even as
inevitable death approached me. I have no fear”. This medicine of Krisna Katha
then grants one , the ultimate perfection of life and that is “Love for Godhead” or
Krishna Prem.

There are two types of people who do not take advantage of Krishna Katha.Those
who kill animals, or those who are cruel hearted, those who enjoy killing others,
merciless people.Secondly people who offer animal sacrifices to demigods for
enjoying the so called luxuries of the material world.A beggar can be called an
unfortunate being because he is a beggar.However a more unfortunate person is
the one who gets a piece of invaluable diamond and casts it away thinking that it is
just a piece of glass.Going one step further , the most unfortunate is a person who
gets a piece of invaluable diamond , recognises its worth and then misplaces it
once and for all due to sheer carelessness.On the same lines , those who are
unaware of the Glory of Krishna Katha are unfortunate beings. People who are
aware of the Glories of Krishna Katha , but do not take the opportunity to attend
Krishna Katha are more unfortunate.However the most unfortunate are the ones
who are aware of the Glories of Krishna Katha and take opportunities to attend
Katha , but neglectfully stop attending Krishna Katha as time passes.
