Welcome to Belair K-8! I am so excited to start this brand-new school year with you! Please see the following for course procedures and expectations. Course Descriptions In 7th grade World Studies, students will learn about the geography, economy, government, and history in different regions of the world with an emphasis on Africa and Asia. In addition to the textbook, students will use maps, charts, articles, and primary sources to acquire, process, and synthesize information. In each unit of study, we will examine a region’s characteristics, history, and culture to better understand the world in which we live. Textbook: (Books will be downloaded on the laptop.) Clairmont Press: World Studies for Georgia Students. Our textbook is available online. Information on online access will be given to students during the first week of school. Course Expectations / Goals: Students are expected to develop writing skills, to keep up with reading assignments, and to begin the process of historical analysis critical to understanding and interpreting the past. Classwork/ Tests/Absences and Homework Policy:
-Students will receive grades for completed classwork.
-Quizzes are mini-assessments to assess student understanding as we cover the standard. Tests will be given when a standard has been covered. Tests will contain questions that require selected and constructed responses. -Homework is designed to help students gain mastery of a standard or skill. Do not expect written homework every day; however, students should form the habit of reading/studying new information on a nightly basis. Homework may be given 1-3 days of the week and may be in the form of reading or writing. I strongly encourage your student to review the material covered in class daily. -If a student is absent, it is their responsibility to ask for the missed assignment. Students who have an excused absence have 3 days to turn in their missed assignment. No work will be accepted after 3 days. -Extra credit activities will be provided a few times throughout the year. The dates and assignments offered will be at the teacher’s discretion. -Cell phones will not be used in the classroom. In order to BYOT the student has to have permission from the teacher. - Computers are required to come to class everyday.
