Two-way slabs subjected mostly to uniformly distributed loads resist them primarily
by bending about both the axis. However, as in the one-way slab, the depth of the two-
way slabs should also be checked for the shear stresses to avoid any reinforcement for
shear. Moreover, these slabs should have sufficient depth for the control deflection. Thus,
strength and deflection are the requirements of design of two-way slabs.
D ≥ Dmin = 100mm for normal design and 125mm for earthquake resistant design.
Step 2: Analysis of Slab.
Slab is analyzed by IS code method. (Ref. Annex D-1 and Annex D-2).
Step 3: Design of Slab.
1. Verify depth of slab:
2. Determine ‘Ast’ and ‘Φ’ and number of bars in shorter direction of slab.
Slab section is normally designed as Singly Reinforced Under Reinforced Rectangular
Section.
