SUGGESTED CUTTING LAYOUT
FOR THE FULL SIZED HAT
SEAM ALLOWANCES & OTHER INFO fold fabric/interfacing in half, with selvedge FABRIC & NOTIONS
to selvedge for this layout REQUIRED
Seam allowances are 3/8" or 1cm wide; all seams are
sewn right sides together unless otherwise stated. You'll need around 1yard/ 90 cm
of fabric & interfacing for the hat,
Skills needed include: working with stiff or or 1/2 yard/45cm fabric & interfacing
firm fabrics; joining fabric along curved edges. for the fascinator.

ABOUT THIS STYLE You'll also need about 1 yard/92cm of 1" or

2.5cm wide grosgrain ribbon for the hat.
These hats can be either a full scale hat, or a mini version
worn as a fascinator. Both versions have a 'crumpled' crown. For the fascinator, you'll also need a
comb or fabric covered hairband.
Please make sure that your fabric is stiff, or if not, be sure to
use a VERY crisp or stiff fusible or sew-in interfacing. For either version, you may wish to
grab a small handful of batting, to

1 Start by applying interfacing to the crown & brim pieces.

You may need to "encourage' the point on the hat with a
sharp stick, skewer or similar... be careful!

To complete the hat, hand-stitch the grosgrain ribbon around the
inside of the brim/crown seam.

+ To complete the fascinator, hand-stitch the base of the brim to the

You may also wish to stuff the point with a

handful of batting...this helps it retain its' shape. Spooky fabulousness!
