Installing face2face Elementary


It is recommended that previous versions of face2face Second edition Elementary are
uninstalled, before installing this version.

The installation of face2face Elementary consists of two separate components:


 the face2face Elementary content
 the face2face Elementary application
We strongly recommend that you install these components to the folders suggested
during the installation process (default locations).

Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8 users


You need to have administrator rights on your computer to complete the installation. On
most computers, the installation will start automatically when you place the disc into the
DVD-ROM drive. If it does not:
1. Open the Start menu and click on My Computer, or double-click on the My Computer
icon on the desktop.
2. Double-click on the DVD-ROM icon.
3. Double-click on the CambridgeApplicationInstaller.exe file and follow the onscreen
instructions.

Mac users
1. Insert the disc into your DVD-ROM drive.
2. Double-click the CambridgeApplicationInstaller DVD-ROM icon on your desktop to
open it.
3. Double-click the CambridgeApplicationInstaller application icon and follow the
onscreen instructions.

Installing face2face Elementary to non-default locations


If you wish to install the face2face Elementary components to different locations, you
must make sure that:
a) you choose a different location for the face2face Elementary 'application' (the
second component installed) from the folder that you chose for the face2face
Elementary 'content' (the first component installed). The face2face
Elementary application folder cannot be in located within the face2face
Elementary content folder!

b) you remember where you chose to install the face2face Elementary


application and face2face Elementary content, as you will be asked to navigate
to these folders every time you use face2face Elementary.

Clearing user scores


face2face Elementary displays information about the user’s scores in the Progress screen.
If you would like to remove all score information from this screen, you can do this at any
time by following the steps below:
1. Close face2face Elementary if it is open.
2. Windows XP: go to C:\Documents and Settings\[user_name]\Application Data
Windows Vista, 7 and 8: go to C:\Users\[user_name]\AppData\Roaming
Mac: go to Users\[user_name]\Library\Preferences
3. Find a folder with “face2face Elementary” in its name and delete it.

Note that Application Data and AppData folders may be hidden. To unhide these folders
(and others), open Folder Options in the Control Panel, and on the View tab, change the
option to Show hidden files and folders, and click OK. For further help on clearing user

Uninstalling face2face Elementary


The installation of face2face Elementary consists of two parts:
 the face2face Elementary content
 the face2face Elementary application

To completely uninstall the face2face Elementary software, you must uninstall both parts
by following the steps below:

Windows users
1. Close face2face Elementary if you are running it.
2. From the Start menu, open the Control Panel.
3. Double-click Add or Remove Programs (Windows XP) or Programs and then Programs
and Features (Windows Vista, 7 and 8);
4. Find face2face Elementary application in the products list and click it to highlight it.
5. Click Remove (Windows XP) or Uninstall (Windows Vista, 7 and 8). The face2face
Elementary application is removed.
6. Next, click on face2face Elementary content to highlight it, click Change/Remove
(Windows XP) or Uninstall (Windows Vista, 7 and 8) and follow the onscreen
instructions.

Windows 8 users may need to manually remove some of the course content, should the
application not uninstall fully (default: C:\Program Files\Cambridge\CambridgeContent).

Mac users
1. Close face2face Elementary if you are running it.
2. In your Mac's Applications folder, navigate to the following folder:
Cambridge\CambridgeContent\Uninstall_ face2face Elementary content.
3. Open the Uninstall_ face2face Elementary content folder, double-click the file called
Uninstall face2face Elementary content, then follow the onscreen instructions.
4. Once the uninstallation procedure has finished, go back to the Cambridge folder. In
this folder, find the _ face2face Elementary application icon. Drag this icon into the
Trash to complete the face2face Elementary uninstallation.

Removing Installation instructions


You will need to manually remove the file Installation instructions from your system if it is
no longer needed. The Installation instructions file is located where the face2face
Elementary content was copied during installation (For example, in Windows if you chose
the default location, then Installation instructions will be in
C:\Program Files\Cambridge\CambridgeContent).

1. Licence

it or the software other than those rights granted in this limited licence for not-for-profit educational use

(b) Cambridge University Press grants the customer the licence to use one copy of this DVD-ROM (i) on a
single computer for use by one or more people at different times, or (ii) by a single person on one or more
computers (provided the DVD-ROM is only used on one computer at one time and is only used by the
customer), but not both.
(c) The customer shall not: (i) copy or authorise copying of the DVD-ROM, (ii) translate the DVD-ROM, (iii)
reverse-engineer, disassemble or decompile the DVD-ROM, (iv) transfer, sell, assign or otherwise convey any
portion of the DVD-ROM, or (v) operate the DVD-ROM from a network or mainframe system.
2. Copyright
(a) All original content is provided as part of the DVD-ROM (including text, images and ancillary material)
(‘Original Material’) and is the copyright of the Licensor, protected by copyright and all other applicable
intellectual property laws and international treaties.
(b) You may not copy the DVD-ROM except for making one copy of the DVD-ROM solely for backup or
archival purposes. You may not alter, remove or destroy any copyright notice or other material placed on or
with this DVD-ROM.
3. Liability
(a) The DVD-ROM is supplied ‘as-is’ with no express guarantee as to its suitability. To the extent permitted
by applicable law, the Licensor is not liable for costs of procurement of substitute products, damages or
losses of any kind whatsoever resulting from the use of this product, or errors or faults in the DVD-ROM, and
in every case the Licensor’s liability shall be limited to the suggested list price or the amount actually paid by
You for the product, whichever is lower.
(b) You accept that the Licensor is not responsible for the persistency, accuracy or availability of any URLs of
external or third party internet websites referred to on the DVD-ROM and does not guarantee that any
content on such websites is, or will remain, accurate, appropriate or available. The Licensor shall not be
liable for any content made available from any websites and urls outside the Software.
(c) Where, through use of the Original Material you infringe the copyright of the Licensor you undertake to
indemnify and keep indemnified the Licensor from and against any loss, cost, damage or expense (including

without limitation damages paid to a third party and any reasonable legal costs) incurred by the Licensor as
a result of such infringement.
4. Termination
Without prejudice to any other rights, the Licensor may terminate this licence if You fail to comply with the
terms and conditions of the licence. In such an event, You must destroy all copies of the DVD-ROM.
5. Governing law
This agreement is governed by the laws of England, without regard to its conflict of laws provision, and each
party irrevocably submits to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts. The parties disclaim the
application of the United Nations Convention on the International Sale of Goods.
