ARTIST STATEMENT – TAMASAN MARIA

My artworks are my diary which encompasses very personal feelings, thoughts and experiences –
therefore they are honest, impulsive, diverse. The creative process begins almost spontaneously
when powerful emotions cannot be expressed by words only. My architectural background and the
urge to explore new media and techniques encouraged me towards various approaches: painting,
digital art, installations, design and architecture projects. Colours, light, contrasts or the lack of
those, depth and texture are fascinating codes with which I interact playfully in my works. The
outcome intertwines the abstract and the figurative, challenging the viewer to interpret and
understand the message in a subjective manner. This approach increases the dynamic between
audience and author, which, in my opinion, enhances the creative process by developing dualities
through different interpretations.
