 INTRODUCTION
CONTINUOUS MINER:-This machine is used for
scraping and loading of coal from the seam used
in underground Board and Pillar mining operation
 Main parts of continuous Miner:-
• Cutter
• Gathering head
• Conveyor
• Traction
• Dust collector
• Manifold hydraulics
• Electrical circuits
MAIN PARTS OF CONTINUOUS MINER
 Cutter drum :-

• The cutter head may be of borer type,

oscillating head type and horizontal drum type
• The majority of the continuous miner
currently in operation are of horizontal drum
type on which block are mounted in the form
of a scrolls , carrying peaks boxes.
• The boxes are welded or bolted to the drum.
Cutter motor

There are 2 cutter motor one in each side of the

machine AC induction 1500 rpm and 170 KW each
 Cutter motor
• This motor drives the cutter head drums on
a Continuous Miner.
• The motor is constructed as follows:
• - All steel frame
- Heavy duty end-brackets for double
flange mounting
- Water cooling by means of wrap around water-
jacket
- Cable entry by flameproof gland
or socket connector
- Flameproof
PEAK (TEETH )
Peaks consists of tungsten carbide and
cobalt material , these peaks an be replaced
when broken which is mounted on a large
rotating steel drum.
ANGLE OF ATTACK & CLEARANCE ANGLE OF A PEAK

• Angle formed by line drawn longitudinally

through the shank and the point of peak and the
line forming the radius of the peak point .
• The sum of the back and front clearance
angles will be equal to 30 degree.
 Gathering motor:-
• This motor has been
designed to drive the
gathering arms on the spade
of a Continuous Miner
through a reduction gearbox.
• The motor is constructed
as follows:-
# All steel frame
# Heavy duty end-brackets
for double flange mounting
# Water cooling by means of
wrap around water-jacket Supply Standard

CLA:-CENTRIFUGAL LOADING ARM

Gathering Head consists of two Gathering head motors

which runs the CLA’s And which are responsible
for loading of coal to the conveyor.
FLOODED BED SCRUBBER
 Dust collector

• This uses a slurry pump motor to remove

slurry from dust collector sump it is located
in the dust collector fan compartment .
The conveyor chain:-
The conveyor chain has an
automatic hydraulic chain
tensioner to ensure correct chain
tension. Incorrect tensioning is the
main cause of premature chain
failure. Large-diameter pins and
bushings lower contact pressure in
the bushings

VENTILATION:-
Health and safety features include
ventilation, dust collector, scrubber,
discharge to left or right, dust
ignition protection, water solenoid
valve to minimize water use and
spillage, methane monitoring, noise
reduction, and remote control.
 CHAIN CONVEYOR:-
• The conveyor having conveyor chain is
responsible for the movement of coal
from foot shaft to the end of conveyor
which dumps into the shuttle car.
• Conveyor chain adjustment:-
• If the movement of flight bar is >100mm from
center then the chain should be tightened
• If the movement of flight bar <50mm from
center then the chain should be loosened.
 Conveyor Chain Adjustment :-

• A loose chain may jam , a tight chain may become overloaded

causing high temperature in drive or foot shaft leading to excessive
wear so in order to addresses this issue a tension adjustment
arrangement is made by incorporating a spring at the end to take up
cylinder to the side of swing conveyor.
TRACTION :-

• It is equipped with spring applied ,hydraulically

released traction brakes which are normally applied.
• Springs inside the brake assembly push a piston
against brake disks results in stoppage
• These are released when hydraulic pressure is applied
to compress the springs and retract the piston
 Taction :-
• Incorporates crawler chain , brakes
,traction motor ,traction planetary and
traction reducer.
• Traction motor are of 26KW of DC
• Traction motors are connected with reducer
and sun and planetary arrangement helps the
crawler chain to move which sits on the
sprocket connected with sun shaft.
TYPES OF CONTINUOUS MINER
• The continuous miner product range is
segmented by the mining height requirement
into three machine classes for low ,medium
and high seam application.

14CM Series
14CM provides the ideal combination of
cutting power, proven components and
reliability for lower to mid-seam applications
in a variety of materials. Built to withstand
the most rigorous conditions, the 14CM offers
optimum service life and return on
investment.
 12CM Series
Mid to high-seam applications is the 12CM series
continuous miners. This model line, available for
both 950 and 2300 volt operation, can operate in
seam heights up to 16 feet 4 inches or 5.0 meters

Deep Cut Capability

The 12CM with remote control and flooded bed dust collector
options provide deep cut capability. Deeper cuts mean fewer
place changes, which in turn means increased production.
12HM Series
Hard rock mining applications is the 12HM series
continuous miners. These machines are
successfully operating in trona, gypsum, potash
and salt mines around the world.
High Capacity Conveying System

The conveying system on the 12HM features a 38 inch (965

mm) conveyor for increased production capability. In addition
to the dual drive gathering head system for loading, the
12HM is also equipped with single rear conveyor chain drive
or optional dual rear conveyor chain drive. The cam style
take-up automatically provides proper conveyor chain
adjustment as the conveyor swings.
 SPECIFICATION:-

• JOY 12CM is a high capacity ,totally remote controlled CM designed

for medium to high coal seam application.
The machine has :-
• Cutter head drum diameter 1.12m
• Cutting width 3.3m
• Max cutting height 4.6m
• Conveyor width 0.76m with 2.41m/s
• CM is equipped with 2 cutter motors, with standard clutch
protected ,AC induction motor 170KW mounted parallel to
centerline of boom frame.
• CM can remove 24tons of minerals per minute .
• Each cutter motor connects to gearing of gear case using
an internal torque shafts.
• 2 Gathering head motors (AC) of 40KW
• 2 TRACTION (DC) of 26 KW
• 1 Pump motor of 52KW
• 1 Dust collector fan motor 19KW
• Total weight of CM is 58 tonns i.e58,376kg
