THANKSGIVING FOR BAPTISM — AN ANGLICAN ASPERGES

The Opening Invocation is said. The Collect for Purity is omitted.


The Presiding Minister goes to the font; or, water may be brought in a suitable vessel.
With hands joined, the Presiding Minister says

There is one Body and one Spirit;


There is one hope in God’s call to us;

One Lord, one Faith, one Baptism;


One God, the maker and lover of us all.

If the water has already been blessed, then with hands extended, the Presiding Minister says

rant, Lord God, to all who have been baptized into the death
G and resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ, that, as we have put
away the old life of sin, so way may be renewed in the spirit of our
minds, and live in righteousness and true holiness; through Jesus
Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the
Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

lmighty God, by our baptism into the death and resurrection


A of your Son Jesus Christ, you turn us from the old life of sin:
Grant that we, having been reborn to new life in him, may live in
righteousness and holiness all our days; through Jesus Christ our
Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God,
now and for ever. Amen.
If the water to be sprinkled is not yet blessed, then with hands extended, the Presiding Minister says

e give you thanks, Almighty God, for the gift of water: with it
W you sustain us; by it, you cleanse us; through it, you draw us
into covenant with you. Now sanctify + this water, we pray you, by
the power of your Spirit, that we who use it in faith may be
reminded of our baptism, and continue for ever in the risen life of
your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. To him, to you, and to the Holy
Spirit be all honor and glory, now and for ever. Amen.

lmighty God, fountain and wellspring of all life: bless + this


A water which we use in faith, that it may be for us a reminder
of baptism and a sign of your forgiveness. Wash away the sin that
divides us, let your life well up within us and lead us whole and
complete into your presence, to praise your glorious name; through
Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
One of the forms for the blessing of water from the Easter Vigil may be substituted.

Where it is customary to mix salt with the holy water, the Presiding Minister blesses the salt, saying

G Elisha cast salt upon the water of a spring in order to make it
pure: bless + now this salt, created by your hand; and grant that
wherever this salt and water are sprinkled, the power of evil may
be repelled and your Holy Spirit may preserve us from harm;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
The salt is then mixed with the water in silence.

The Renewal of the Baptismal Covenant may take place at this point.

Immediately before sprinkling the water, the Presiding Minister may say

Remember your baptism, and be grateful.


During the Sprinkling, the following, or another anthem, psalm or hymn may be sung:
Cleanse me, O God, from my sin, and I shall be pure;
wash me, and I shall be clean indeed.
Psalm 51:8

During the season of Easter, the following is sung in place of the above:
I beheld water flowing from the threshold of the Temple, alleluia.
Wherever the water flows, everything springs to life, alleluia.
Ezekiel 47:1, 9

After the sprinkling of water, with hands joined, the Presiding Minister says

ay Almighty God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who


M has given us a new birth by water and the Holy Spirit, and
bestowed upon us the forgiveness of sins, keep us in eternal
life by his grace; through Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen.
