Reflection
(Minimum of 3-4 sentences per question)
1. Briefly describe the field experience. What did you learn about technology coaching and technology leadership from
completing this field experience?

The field experience was very rewarding. Though I have background in Special Education and have supported many students with
several deficits, I have had limited experience with English Language Learners. I do feel, because of my background, it afforded me the
opportunity to predict some of the resources and strategies that were mentioned in the module; however, my experience in Special
Education did not fully or properly prepare me for the teaching and learning experience I had while completing the field experience. The
module provided more resources and strategies which in turn, allowed me to provide the student with the proper instruction needed.
While completing the field experience, I was reminded of how helpful the right technology tool integrated with great pedagogical
strategies could positively affect student engagement and learning.

2. How did this learning relate to the knowledge (what must you know), skills (what must you be able to do) and dispositions
(attitudes, beliefs, enthusiasm) required of a technology facilitator or technology leader? (Refer to the standards you selected
above. Use the language of the PSC standards in your answer and reflect on all 3—knowledge, skills, and dispositions.)
Knowledge – As a technology coach, you must know the student content standards and technology standards. Prior to the field
experience, the teacher expressed he would like for me to work with the student in ELA. Prior to the lesson, I ensured I was abreast to
the 2nd grade ELA standards being covered. Doing so helped guided the instruction. As a technology leader, it is important to stay
current with the content teachers are covering. This will allow you to utilize the proper technology tool to enhance the learning
experience and in turn achieve student success.

Skills – With this field experience, knowing the researched-based learner-centered strategies provided a guide of how to structure
material that would be effective and efficient as it pertained to student achievement. I could identify what needed to be covered and
what strategies would best work at what point. I knew it was imperative for me to activate prior knowledge that would assist students in
making personal connections with the lesson(s). Also, I was able to identify and utilize resources that would engage the student in an
authentic learning experience. As a technology facilitator, you must be well versed in all classrooms, not just those that would be
deemed typical. By doing so, you allow yourself the opportunity to provide superior support at all levels and in all situations.

Dispositions – This field experience was one that showed me how important it is to continuously learn and maintain a flexible
mentality. Had I not been assigned this task, I probably would not have opt to create this experience on my own. It also made me realize
that one’s background and experience in education can be beneficial, but not enough or effective depending on the audience that is to be
reached. Despite the similarity to teaching Special Education students, teaching ELLs is not the same. I enjoyed this experience and it
reminded me of how flexible I should remain as a technology leader.

3. Describe how this field experience impacted school improvement, faculty development or student learning at your school.
How can the impact be assessed?

Though I work with this teacher and these students on a regular basis, I can not speak to how much this field experience impacted
school improvement. I do think the strategies I used along with the technology tool, Nearpod for ELL or Nearpod in general, could
directly impact school improvement if effectively used on a consistent basis in more classrooms. By working with the teacher,
explaining my plans and aligning his vision for the student with the instruction I provided developed his pedagogical practices and
allowed him to learn new strategies he could implement in his instruction where he sees fit. In this instance, I am unsure that one would
be able to assess the impact of this experience in either school improvement or faculty development. However, the experience could
possibly be assessed if continued over a period of time and student outcomes are monitored within that time.
