2 3 10/30/06

* Asterisk represents pages revised for this issue.

I. SCOPE

(3) ` A. This standard covers the minimum requirements for TEFC and XP, low
voltage, NEMA T frame and larger induction motors.

B. The specific requirements for each application shall be defined by

the Material Requisition, which takes precedence over this
standard.

II. REFERENCE STANDARDS

(3) All motors shall be designed, manufactured and tested in accordance

with the latest edition of the applicable NEMA-MG1, IEEE-841, UL and
ANSI Standards.

III. SERVICE REQUIREMENTS

All motors shall be suitable for outdoor installation and continuous

operation in the severe environment typical of refineries and chemical
plants.

IV. PERFORMANCE

A. Motors shall be suitable for across-the-line starting at full

voltage and 80% rated voltage.

B. Motors shall satisfy the speed-torque requirements of the driven

equipment over their entire starting and operating range.

C. Motors which are specified to be automatically restarted after a

momentary power outage shall develop sufficient torque to attain
rated speed under full load within 15 seconds with 80% rated
voltage.

D. The locked rotor KVA/HP for motors 125 HP and larger shall not
exceed Code Letter G.

E. The full load slip shall not exceed 3% of the synchronous speed for
motors 20 HP and larger or 5% for motors 15 HP and smaller.

V. SELECTION OF MOTORS FOR CLASSIFIED AREAS

Motors for use in classified areas (as specified on the Material

Requisition) shall be selected in accordance with the following:

1. Class I, Division 1

(3) All motors and auxiliary electrical devices shall be

explosion-proof (XP) and shall carry a UL label with a temperature
marking "T3". Exposed surface temperatures shall not exceed 200oC
(392oF).

2. Class I, Division 2

(3) Motors shall be either approved for Class I, Division 1 or shall be

non-explosion-proof enclosed motors (TEFC), such as squirrel cage
induction motors without brushes, switching mechanisms, or similar
arc-producing devices. The maximum temperature of internal and
external surfaces shall not exceed the lower value of the the Auto
Ignition Temperature (AIT) of the flammable atmosphere as specified
in the Material Requisition or the temperature marking “T3” 200oC
(392oF). The exposed surface of space heaters shall not exceed 80%
of the AIT in degrees Celsius, as specified in the Material
Requisition.

3. Class II, Division 1

(3) All motors and auxiliary devices shall be dust-ignition-proof with

a UL label for Class II, Division 1. Unless otherwise specified,
motors shall be approved for Group G, temperature marking "T3B"
165oC (329oF)maximum surface temperature).

4. Class II, Division 2

(3) Motors shall be either approved for Class II, Division 1 or shall
be totally enclosed fan-cooled for which maximum full-load external
temperature shall not exceed the AIT specified in the Material
Requisition or temperature marking “T3B” 165oC (392oF) for normal
operations when operating in free air (not dust blanketed) and
shall have no external openings.

5. Single-Phase Motors

(3) All single-phase motors specified for use in classified areas

(Division 1 or 2) shall be Division 1 explosion-proof construction
and carry a UL label with a temperature marking of “T3” 200oC
(392oF).

VI. MOTOR CONSTRUCTION

A. Motor frames shall be constructed of cast iron with cast iron

conduit boxes. Hardware shall be corrosion resistant.

B. Anti-friction bearings shall be double shielded, regreasable type

with grease fittings and grease relief plugs.

C. Fans shall be of non-sparking, corrosion resistant material.

D. Motors shall have Class B or Class F non-hygroscopic insulation

systems with a temperature rise not to exceed that specified in
NEMA- MGl-12.42. When the specified site conditions are greater
than 40oC ambient or 3300 feet altitude, the temperature rise shall
be adjusted in accordance with NEMA-MGl such that the total
hot-spot temperature will not exceed the maximum for the insulation
class or the limits of Section V above.

E. Unless otherwise specified the conduit box for horizontal motors

shall be located on the right hand side when viewed from the end
opposite the shaft extension (NEMA Standard Assembly F-1).

VII. VERTICAL MOTORS

A. Specific requirements for vertical motors will be defined in the

Requisition for the driven equipment.

B. Vertical motors shall be purchased by the driven equipment

manufacturer who will specify the requirements for thrust bearings,
shaft arrangement and mounting flange dimensions.

C. Proposals for vertical motors shall state the maximum allowable

thrust bearing loads.

D. All vertical motors shall be mounted on the driven equipment prior

to shipment to the job-site.

VIII. ACCESSORY EQUIPMENT

A. Space heaters, when specified, shall be 120 volts with leads

brought out to a separate conduit box.

B. Drain holes with UL listed drain fittings suitable for the area
classification (Crouse-Hinds ECD or equal) shall be furnished on
all motors.

C. Motors specified for V-belt drive shall be furnished with slide

rail bases. Motors that are to be grouted directly to a foundation
shall be supplied with soleplates.

IX. NAMEPLATES

In addition to NEMA requirements, all motors shall have corrosion

resistant nameplates with the following data:

a. Purchaser's Equipment Item No. (may be on a separate plate)

b. Maximum Ambient Temperature
c. Connection Diagram

X. WARNING LABELS

Warning labels restricting the use of motors in the specified

application or environment are not acceptable unless the restrictions,
clarifications, or exceptions are submitted by the Vendor and approved
by Foster Wheeler prior to placement of the Purchase Order.

XI. NOISE LEVEL

A. Proposals shall state the overall noise level (dBA) at 3 feet for
each motor rating.

B. Requirements for low noise level motor designs will be defined in

the requisition for the driven equipment.

XII. SHOP TESTS

Each motor shall be given the manufacturer's standard commercial tests

which include the following:

a. Winding resistance measurement

b. High potential test
c. Determination of locked rotor current.
d. Run with light current (No load) to demonstrate satisfactory
mechanical performance.
