2. One book Im OK, Youre OK- completely changed my life when I read it in
freshman year. It made me self-aware. It helped me understand that I was an
adaptive kid, the other two kinds being a free kid and a rebellious kid. I realized
that I tend to avoid conflict, a trait I controlled for since then.
4. The best dessert I can make is trifle pudding with plum-cake, mixed fruits,
custard, whipped cream and almonds, my addition to the signature classic. It goes
down well with mulled wine and is gone in minutes at parties.
5. I had a fitness enterprise for seven months in grad school. There were no
gym or sports facilities but many students who wanted to work out. I hired a good
trainer, booked a hall, spread the word to get students to participate and got a
40% return on investment on my first startup.
8. My dress helps me improve my mood for the day. Dressing well helps me
manage myself on bad days.
10. In my performance evaluation, this year, my boss told me that I have faced
great odds and greater challenges but have always come to the surface and that he
has learned from my patience and admires my tenacity in life.
11. I am found of sufi music. Everything about sufi music sings peace, love and
purity. The mysticism in sufi music touches the depths of my soul. My favorite
singer is Abida Praveen
12. I have held off pressure at home from parents and all my twelve uncles and
aunts to get married for the last three years. I do not feel ready to marry and
will marry when I am.
13. I have seen from up close KH India break out its vicious cycle of declining
growth under the leadership of our current managing director who came in ready to
do whatever it took to carry out his vision despite objections from his deputies.
16. I take too much on my plate. Saying yes to new experiences as well as chances
to relive nostalgic moments with family and friends. All this sometimes overwhelms
me.
17. I learnt the alphabet of sign language while working with deaf-and-dumb
factory employees.
18. The worst day at KH was when five hundred off-payroll employees had not been
paid owing to a bug in our payroll system. I was on one call after another for
three straight hours, office communicator popping up on my screen like confetti on
New Years, my inbox piling up with stinker mails and several colleagues lining up
to talk to me. I realized that day just how connected a world we live in with the
sheer number of channels of communication available to us. Our ancestors would not
believe this if they saw it.
19. In August 2018, I went on a solo trip (not common for Indian girls) to Bali,
stayed in backpacker hostels and had a great time meeting people of all sorts.
20. I trained in the primary series of Ashtang Yoga in 2016 and have been doing
yoga for the past three years. You can call me Ashtangi.
21. Working in human resources, I have had to ask people to leave based on their
performance. It is one of the toughest parts of my job, also the one I must do most
delicately.
22. I like people who add a spark of humor to life. Humor can break down sad
moments, awkward moments and tense moments into a laugh fest.
24. Indra Nooyi is my role model, having broken through the glass ceiling. I look
up to her. Her candid nature, openness about her personal life and about the
choices she has made, make me feel more connected to her.
25. Hand gestures helped me have a ton of fun in a week-long trip to Shanghai. I
tried crab when faced with a lack of palatable vegetarian choices at a street food
stall my colleagues said I must check out and took me to. They did not know that I
am vegetarian till after the non-vegetarian meal I ever had.
