Learning Objective(s):
- Students will learn about their own culture

Materials:
-“Whoever You Are” by Mem Fox
-Outline of world map
-Markers
-Pack of dot stickers

Procedure:

9:00am- 9:03am- Welcome the students to sit in a circle.


9:03- 9:10- Describe what multiculturalism means and ask students to describe what respect of others means
to them.
9:10am – 9:25am – Read “Whoever You Are” by Mem Fox to the students. While reading, we will pause to
have each student color in an area that they talk about in the book.
9:25am- 9:35am - Students will then discuss what their personal culture is and where on the map they think
it is. They can then place a sticker on the map.
9:35am-9:40am – Close out lesson by showing the students how many different places were talk about in the
book and how diverse the classroom is. Ask anyone if they have questions.

Process Data:
30 2nd graders will meet three times for 40 minutes over the course of 3 weeks to talk about different
cultures and create more awareness.

Perception Data:
Students will understand what multiculturalism means and will be respectful of others differences. They
will also gain knowledge about their own culture over the course of these lessons.

Outcome Data:
Students will be able to come to the last lesson dressed in clothing from their cultural and know five
facts to tell the class. Students will have more respectful behavior towards peers.
Follow Up:
Students will be observed by staff for respect of others and acceptance of their peers. We will have an
open door policy and safe space for any student who needs it. Each lesson will explore different cultures
and have the students learn more about themselves.
