Neck column:
The part of the column which is present in sub structure is called neck
column. (Column in substructure)
Well, the reason for this dividing column into two parts is to make ease in
understanding the Bar Bending schedule clearly.
Neck column reinforcement calculation is divided into two parts Main bars
and stirrups.
Part-II:- Stirrups
1. Deduce the concrete cover from all sides of tie/stirrups and find out
the length of stirrup.
2. Adopt Dia of Stirrup.
3. Calculate the length of stirrup including hook.
4. Then Find out the total no. of stirrups.
5. Find the total length of stirrups
6. Lastly, Calculate the total wt. of stirrups.
Length, Dia and No. of Bars are adopted and designed by the structural
engineer by executing the load analysis.
To make it clear I included almost all types of columns. Well C1, C3, C4,
C6, C9 (Square Columns) are similar and C2, C8 (T-Column) C5 is
Circular Column, C7 is L Type column.
No. of Main Bars = 4 in Square column, No. of Main Bars = 8 in Circular &
L Type Column
No. of Main Bars = 10 in T Type Column
Column Details:-
Well, L Type Column (C7) has same No. of Main Bars as circular column
C5, total wt of steel required for L type columns are 41.78 Kgs.
First of all deduct the concrete cover from all the sides of column for finding
out the length of stirrup.
As per the condition deduct the concrete cover of 0.1 from all sides of
stirrups in square column.
C2,C8 T-Type Column :-
C7 L-Type column: –
ABSTRACT FOR FINDING OUT THE TOTAL QUANTITY OF STEEL
REINFORCEMENT REQUIRED FOR NECK COLUMN FOR THE ABOVE
