Preface
Punjab Education Foundation is committed to promote quality education. It achieves this goal by
complying with changing directive and textbooks by PCTB according to the current National
Curriculum of Pakistan. These textbooks have been designed to execute knowledge and skills as
per needs of time with the changing educational scenario and enhancing the demand of increased
cognitive level of students.
To comply with the changes implemented in National Curriculum of Pakistan the Punjab
Curriculum & Text Book board (PCTB) is in the process of updating the text books from grade 1
to 10. The new content book is in accordance with the revised textbooks and serves as a general
guideline for the educators to ensure a suave level of preparedness for forthcoming QATs. The
content is segregated class wise bilingually and serves the sole aim to stimulate the learning of
basic concepts and plays an important role in enhancing knowledge, developing desired thinking
skills and bringing about the needed changes in learners’ attitudes. This version of content book
is compiled separately for English and Urdu for the convenience of different medium of schools.
I am sure that partner schools, teachers and students will benefit from this effort of ours. The
Model papers are available on our website: www.pef.edu.pk.

The department of Academic Development Unit (ADU) was established in 2005 to plan and conduct
Quality Assurance Test (QAT) on annual basis of all PEF partner schools to assess their students’
learning outcomes. The results consequently determine continuation of partnership with schools.
Academic Development Unit (ADU) consists of a core team of subject specialists of English,
Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Urdu and Computer Science. The members of ADU have
secure understanding of the subject knowledge and expertise in pedagogical skills for secure
dissemination of knowledge.
QAT is conducted once a year. The first PEF-QAT was conducted in 2006 by ADU. The ADU team is
continuously engaged in developing item types based on National Curriculum. Subject Specialists
develop questions based on Bloom’s Taxonomy .They develop a variety of QAT papers for each class in
each subject on which QAT is conducted.
In order to facilitate PEF partner schools ADU has developed content book for QATs, however partner
schools must consult the syllabus for QATs uploaded at PEF website.
