Good Health and Well-Being

Mothers and children around world die every day for reasons that could be prevented

with proper healthcare. In developing nations, women and the children they care for are too often

unable to obtain treatment for their illnesses, or receive basic healthcare they need. Steps are

being taken by the United Nations to fix this worldwide problem. Perhaps the most important

measure being taken to prevent diseases includes distribution of vaccines, and treatment of

illnesses. Still, more can be done on a global scale. You can make a big difference by doing

something so simple, yet so helpful.

Making vaccinations available for all children and mothers is an important first line of

defense. When people do not have access to healthcare that can prevent illness in the first

place, there is little chance that they will have access to more advanced care need after

becoming sick. Recognizing this, “The United Nations has established a goal of reducing

childhood poverty, illness, and death” (www.un.org). We also need to focus on maternal health,

as mothers in developing regions aren’t equipped to care for the health of their children. By

some estimates, only half of the families in developing nations receive the healthcare they need.

Since the U.N. goals have been put in motion, there has been progress. “In Eastern Asia, North

Africa, and Southern Asia, maternal mortality has declined around two thirds.” (www.who.int).

More workers and organizations have been doing much to help out.

The Red Cross has been another important organization working to improve worldwide

healthcare, helping those in need and promoting ongoing healthy lives for all, including mothers.

“The Red Cross meets every four years to discuss the organization's plans and to coordinate their

efforts.” ( Senker 10) The Red Cross set this goal because to ensure healthy lives and well-

being. Ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being is important to building prosperous

societies. “Maternal mortality has fallen by almost 50 percent” (www.who.int) . Health is

getting better but there are many there are many more things that need to be done to make people

healthy. One organization helping to get these things done.

According to one U.N. report, “Children in developing nations are still at risk of getting

vaccine-preventable illnesses, including measles, the flu, pneumonia and more” (www.un.org).

To aid with this, World Health Organization is working reduce childhood disease and death by

funding and distributing vaccines that prevent disease. The W.H.O. dispurses trained healthcare

workers to developing nations to provide healthcare screenings, treating problems that are

generally inexpensive in wealthy nations. Poverty is an enormous problem, and contributing to

trustworthy charity is one way we can help. “With persistent healthcare problems in the world,

the challenges to governments and healthcare charities remain huge.” ( Senker 50). There are

many resources available to find such charities.

We need to start to address this situation we need healthy people to help change the

unhealthy world, there are many other problems in our world we cannot fix without our great

healthy population. The world health organization workers are giving vaccinations and

treatments to developing nations, but so much more for their health and can be improved on. You

can start helping by protecting your own health and getting you and your family vaccinated. You

can make a big difference by doing something so simple, yet so helpful.
