PRODUCTION DOCUMENTS:

Initial Idea:
Our initial idea for this production was to go to Anya’s farm in Wigton and
interview her boyfriend, Jimmy about the process of moving onto a farm at
such a young age and asking about any problems that he may have faced.
Through further research, this then developed into us interviewing Jimmy’s
boss David about his career as both a farmer and an auctioneer and how his
career may be affected by factors such as brexit.

Scripted Elements:
Opening Dialogue: Here I am in Pond House in Wigton where I’m about to
meet Dave who’s an auctioneer as well as a farmer, let’s go meet him.

Questions: What got you into auctioneering?

How will Brexit affect your beef stock?

Voiceover:
-Currently UK farmers receive around 60% of their income from EU subsides as
90% of the UK export beef and lamb to go to countries in the EU.
-With Brexit talks the government has planned to match this until 2020.
-New trading relationships with states outside the EU could lead to increased
competition from countries with lower food, animal welfare and
environmental standards.
-The UK exports 24,000 tonnes of beef and imports 60,000 tonnes. Exports are
mainly to the EU.
