Wind Orchestra Conducting Masterclass


After the success of the first edition, "Filarmónica Ressureição de Mira" presents the
2nd International Conducting Masterclass with Douglas Bostock. The Masterclass
is open to conductors of all nationalities and the course will be held in English.

The British conductor Douglas Bostock is Principal Conductor of the


Argovia Philharmonic in Switzerland (since 2001) and Music Director of
the Hallwyl Opera Festival (since 2003). He has held positions with the
Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra (Principal Conductor), the Czech
Chamber Philharmonic (Principal Guest Conductor), the Munich
Symphony Orchestra (Principal Guest Conductor), The Southwest
German Philharmonic (Regular Guest Conductor), and Tokyo Kosei
Wind Orchestra (Principal Conductor & Principal Guest Conductor).
Maestro Bostock has appeared extensively with leading orchestras in
most countries on the European continent, as well as in Asia, and on
the American Continent such as the BBC Orchestras, the London
Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic, Prague Radio Symphony, Prague
Symphony, Aarhus and Odense Symphony, New Japan Philharmonic,
Nagoya Philharmonic, Kyoto and Sapporo Symphony, Japan Century,
Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa, Calgary Symphony, Kansas City
Symphony, National Chamber Orchestra, to name but a few.
A prolific recording artist, Douglas Bostock has over 100 CDs to his
name, reflecting his diverse and extensive repertoire, and including
many less well-known and previously unrecorded works. His major
recording cycles of the complete orchestral music of Carl Nielsen and
the symphonies of Robert Schumann as well as the extensive British
Symphonic Collection have won particular international acclaim.
Maestro Bostock is well known as a dedicated teacher of conducting.
He has been Guest Professor in the conducting and opera departments
at Tokyo University of the Arts, where he has a long-standing
DOUGLAS relationship. His conducting master classes in many countries are
widely acclaimed and enjoy great popularity. Furthermore, keenly
embracing the challenge of working with young musicians, he is

BOSTOCK frequently invited to conduct at music colleges in Europe and Asia, and
is Visiting Professor at Senzoku Gakuen College of Music in Japan.

On 5 March the band will have a dress rehearsal (14:30) and final concert
(18:30) under the direction of Maestro Bostock. Masterclass participants are
welcome to attend.

All inscriptions must be made by 18/01/2019.


Inscriptions The application for the Conducting Masterclass is by e-mail (apply to
masterclass.frm2019@gmail.com) and should include (1) a CV with the details of
the musical education and conducting experience, (2) a repertoire list (conducted
main works) and (3) a link to a short video, 5 to 10 minutes of the applicant
conducting, made within the last 18 months. The participation in all conducting
masterclass sessions is mandatory for active participants.

Conducting Masterclass:
Fees - 200€ active participation (10 places)
- 25€ passive participation (unlimited places)
Successful conducting applications will be notified until 21/01/2019, and should
send transfer payment receipt to the inscription e-mail until 25/01/2018, under risk
of exclusion. Unselected candidates applications may choose to be passive
participants, by paying the passive participation fee.

Accommodation The organization provides accommodation for those who request it on the
application form. The accommodation will be in a 3-star residencial, in
and Meals double or triple rooms with private bathroom, and with breakfast included.
The cost of the accomation package is 45€, check-in on March 2 (Saturday)
and check-out on March 5 (Tuesday). Check-out on March 4 (Monday) and
price for single room on request.
The organization provides lunch and dinner for those who request it on the
registration form. The cost of the meal package is €35 and includes Lunch
and Dinner from March 2 (Saturday) to 4 (Monday).
