“The Gift of the Magi” by O. Henry is one of my favorite
short stories. Della and Jim were very much in love but
also very poor. Each had a unique possession. Della’s
hair was her glory. When let down, it was like a robe.
Jim owned a gold pocket watch given to him by his fa-
ther.
The day before Christmas, Della had only one dollar
and eighty-seven cents to buy her husband a gift. She
went out and sold her hair for twenty dollars. She then
bought a beautiful platinum fob for Jim’s watch.
When Jim came home from work and saw Della with
her hair short, he was stunned. It wasn’t that she was
unattractive. She was lovelier than ever. Slowly he
handed his gift to her. His gift was a set of expensive
tortoise-shell combs with jeweled edges for her beauti-
ful hair. How could he afford them? He had sold his
gold watch to buy them for her. Each gave the best
they had to show their love for one another. God has
done even more at Christmas to show his love.
On Christmas Eve we light all five Advent candles, read
selected scripture and sing Christmas songs. If your
family or a friend would like to light one of the candles
and read a scripture let me know. (Office – 277-6300 or
text me at 669-3734).
A misprint in a church bulletin read: “I Heard the Bills
on Christmas Day.” It can get a little crazy and expen-
sive if you are not careful. My recommendation: slow
down-spend sensibly-enjoy family and treasure God’s
gift.
Our mission/purpose is pretty simple: “To glorify God
by believing in Jesus, becoming like Jesus and bringing
others to Jesus.” Sure we can improve, but I’m proud
of the progress we are making.
Thanks for allowing me a Sunday away on my birthday.
Turning sixty-six seems ancient to some and young to
others. There are at least five things I would not trade
anything for: my salvation, my family, my integrity, our
country and this church.
I’ll see you Sunday.

Children’s Ministry

We are still in need of loving adults (males too) during Pre-
school Worship once a month at the 10:30am service. Cur-
rent needs are:
1st Sunday Bed Babies - 1 volunteer
2nd Sunday Toddlers—2 volunteers
3rd Sunday Toddlers - 2 volunteers
4th Sunday Bed Babies & 2 yo - 2 volunteers
Sunday Morning Teacher/Coordinator Meetings
Breakfast @ 8 AM, Room 313. This is a vital Team Meeting
that builds unity and provides insight into our growth. Our
upcoming meetings: Jan. 6th, Feb. 3rd
Basketball - K– 3rd season begins January 8th and contin-
ues each Monday through February 25th @ Eastern Hills
Baptist. 4th - 6th grade season will be played on Saturdays
@ True Divine in January and February. Practices are Sun-
days @ 4 pm on the Eastmont basketball court.
Serve Day - Friday, December 21st 7:00 am - 3:00 pm
Begins @ Krispy Kreme and ends at Eastdale Mall. Free
donuts, bring a sack lunch. Free ice skating from 3:30 -
6:00 pm. We will be delivering Christmas gifts, serving our
community, and sharing hope with our homebound.
Parents and families welcome! 3rd grade and under are
welcome to serve with a loving adult.
Alabama Bible Drill Retreat @ Shocco Springs Jan. 25 - 26
Cost: $50 increases after January 6th

Students will travel to Tennessee, January 19-21, 2019.
Registration for this event is closed. Remaining balances
are due Sunday, January 6.
TACKY SWEATER CHRISTMAS PARTY
Wednesday, December 12, from 6-8 p.m. the student
ministry Christmas party will take place at the Pete Peter-
son Lodge, 2635 Gunter Park Dr E, Montgomery, AL.
There is no cost to attend. There will be food, games,
prizes, a photo booth, and more.
YOUTH ON MISSION
Sunday, December 9, will be our final week for YOM in
2018. Students will meet by groups at 5:00 and then will
help serve the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering fundraiser
dinner at 6:00 p.m.
DISCIPLE NOW WEEKEND
The dates for DNow are February 15-17. Registration will
begin in January. Save the date and invite friends now.
SUMMER MISSION TRIP
June 23-29, 2019, the student ministry will travel to St.
Louis, Missouri, to partner with Street Reach St. Louis.
Registration will begin in January. Save the date for now.

STUDENT CHOIR
The Student Choir rehearses every Sunday at 4PM in the
choir suite. We are investing in the future of Eastmont
in worship and service to our Lord through music. Come
be a part and be in prayer for our next generation of
worship leaders!
KIDZ CHOIR
1st-6th Grade children will be joining the rest of Music
Ministry for “A Night of Christmas Worship” on Decem-
ber 16. We are preparing during Kidz Choir each Sunday
evening. Make sure your child is a part of of this special
Christmas celebration.
Our children are working hard on our program! We will
present PARABLELOOZA in the 10:30 service on Feb 3.
There is still time for your child to be a part! We meet
each Sunday night 4:45-6:15.
1st-6th Grade drop off at the basketball court, pick up in
the choir suite.
