18.4.1 — Stresses in concrete immediately after prestress transfer
(before time-dependent prestress losses):
(c) Where computed concrete tensile strength, ft, exceeds 0.50 √𝒇′𝒄𝒊
at ends of simply supported members, or 0.25√𝒇′𝒄𝒊 at other locations,
additional bonded reinforcement shall be provided in the tensile zone to
resist the total tensile force in concrete computed with the assumption
of an uncracked section.
where the value of fy used in Eq. (18-5) shall not exceed 420 MPa. Bonded
reinforcement shall be uniformly distributed over precompressed tensile zone
as close as practicable to the extreme tension fiber.
18.9.4.1 — In positive moment areas, minimum length of bonded reinforcement
shall be one-third the clear span length, ln, and centered in positive moment area.
𝛾𝑝 𝑓𝑝𝑢 𝑑
fps = fpu {1- [𝜌𝑝 + (𝜔 − 𝜔′ )]} (18-1)
𝛽1 𝑓𝑐′ 𝑑𝑝
where 𝜔 is 𝜌fy /f′c,𝜔′ is 𝜌′fy /f′c, and 𝛾𝑝 is 0.55 for fpy /fpu not
less than 0.80; 0.40 for fpy /fpu not less than 0.85; and 0.28 for
fpy /fpu not less than 0.90.
shall be taken not less than 0.17 and d ′shall be no greater than 0.15dp .
(b) For members with unbonded tendons and with a
span-to-depth ratio of 35 or less:
𝑓𝑐′
fps=fse +70+ (18-2)
100𝜌𝑝
but fps in Eq. (18-2) shall not be taken greater than the lesser of fpy and
(fse + 420).
(c) For members with unbonded tendons and with a span-to-depth ratio
greater than 35:
𝑓𝑐′
fps=fse +70+ (18-3)
300𝜌𝑝
but fps in Eq. (18-3) shall not be taken greater than
the lesser of fpy and (fse + 210).
