1. Are all wire ropes in good visual condition and

free from kinks, flat spots and broken wires ?.

2. Are all end fittings in good condition (pins,

sockets etc....) ?

3. Are all pins, sockets, padeyes for wire

termination, and the boom NDT’d yearly ?

4. Are the drum sockets in good condition ?

5. Are the securing bolts tight on the wire rope of

the drum ?

6. Are there at least 4 wraps on the drum when the

fast line and the load line hook are on the deck
of the work boat ? (According to the unit).

7. Are the following sheaves in good condition,

greased, turning freely, and are they the correct
size for the wire rope ?

8. Does the hook turn freely ?

9. Does the hook latch work properly ?

10. Has the hook been NDT tested in the last 4

years ?

11. If wood braces or bumpers are fitted on the

boom, are they in good condition and well
secured with wire mesh ?

12. Is a block saver fitted to the load and the fast

lines ?

13. Are the cranes fitted with load charts ?

14. Are weight indicators functional and fitted on

the last line and the load line ?

15. Is an over boom stop fitted ?

16. Is there anything on the boom that can fall ?

17. Is the headache ball properly attached to the

wedge socket ?

18. Are any safety devices altered ?

Are they tested at least once a week ?

19. Are the brakes in good condition, and do they

hold the load ?

20. Is a boom angle indicator installed and

working ?

21. Can the crane operator see out of the cab

clearly ?
Is all of the glass in the cab in place and clear
from paint and cracks ?

22. Can the cab be locked ?

23. Are wind screen wipers fitted ?

24. Is there any fuel or oil leaks ?

25. Are guards for rotating machinery in place ?

26. Is the exhaust spark arrested ?

27. Rate the housekeeping on the crane ?

30. Is a VHF radio installed for communicating

with the boats ?

31. Is the crane pedestal clear of flammables ?

32. Is the safe working load marked on the boom ?

33. Is there unobstructed access to the crane cab

from the deck ?

34. Are ladders, platforms and handrails in good

condition ?

35. Do toe boards completely cover all platforms ?

36. Is there a designated departure/landing area for

personnel transfer by basket ?

37. Except for intended emergency release systems,

can the blocks and whipline be lowered only by
powering (vs. free falling) ?

38. Does the crane operator have a handover

book ?

39. If applicable, does the monthly maintenance

program require checking the screwing pump ?

40. Are the cables certificates available ?

41. Is there a board with the standard crane signs

posted up ?
