Write-up of the Interview
1. What is the role of the English Language in your workplace?
-Sa workplace namin, important yung English Language specially kapag medical, kase ang ginagamit sa
medical is yung English terms, kase wala namang mga tagalog terms yung ibang medical terms, so kapag nag uusap
kaming mga doctors, ng mga nurses, we are using the English Language, pero kapag kinakausap naming yung patient
syempre kailangan Tagalog para magkaintindihan kami.

- In our workplace, English Language is important especially when medical terms is used because some
medical terms has no corresponding Tagalog term. Hence, if we talk with doctors, nurses must use the English
language. However, when we speak with patients, we use Tagalog for better understanding.

2. What are the challenges you are encountering when it comes to the use of English both with
written and oral fluency?
or meeting within the team para iexplain kailangan tagalog para relate lahat.

- When it comes to written English communication, we do not have any problems because the nurses and
doctors understand each other and we are used to the medical terms that is translated to English. In verbal
communication, sometimes there’s a problem because some nurses use different terms. Sometimes, when doctors
explain the problem to the patient using the English language, there arises a little problem. However, when we have
team meetings, we use Tagalog so that everyone can understand.

3. What are your efforts, programs, and projects to equip employees with the skills, knowledge and
competencies in using the language?
-For that naman yung DOH under sa amin may mga seminars silang ginagawa specially dun sa mga terms,
mga updated terms and policies tsaka yung procedures in English naman ineexplain, so na tratrain rin yung mga
under employees namin and dun sa workplace mismo. Iniimplement naming na kapag nag uusap professional to
professional is kailangan yung English term para nagkakaintindihan.

- For this, under us, the DOH, had conducted seminars to update us specially the terms and policies including
procedures which uses English language as medium of instruction. So, employees were also trained to use the
language. When professionals speak to each other, it must be in English so we could understand each other.

4. Do you think the SPEAK IN ENGLISH Policy is an ideal policy in your transactions?
- In transactions with the patient hindi siya masyadong ideal kase masyadong malalalim ang English term
kapag iniintroduce naming sa patients pero kung English term with a professional to professional interaction pwede
pa siya siguro kase usually nga yung sinabi ko kanina English term naman yung ginagamit naming kapag nag rerelay
kami ng information about medication.

- In transacting with patients, it is not the most ideal because the language is hard to understand. However
when we interact with our co-professionals we use the term especially when we relay information about medication.

5. Do you think using the English Language in your daily transactions of delivering services affects your
performance, effectiveness and efficiency?
-Oo,nagkakaroon siya ng epekto ng delivery of healthcare for the professionals, it’s better kapag nag uusap
kami so mas naiintindihan naming, mas madali naming nakukuha kung ano man yung kalagayan ng patient kapag
English ang ginagamit namin, pero kung sa patient it’s better na in Tagalog para mas naiintindihan niya.

- Yes, there is an effect in the delivery of healthcare for the professionals we use English because we better
understand each other especially when we get information on the status of the patient. However, it is better to use
Tagalog when we deal with patient because it is easier for them to understand.
