Spelling Homework for grade 6 week of 1/14-1/18 (THREE assignments)

MONDAY - Title: Spelling classification/SLEs 4, 5, and 6 (Due on Tuesday)

Directions:

1. On your paper make two columns.

2. At the top of the LEFT column, write PATTERNS. On the top of the RIGHT column,
Write SLEs 4 AND 5

3. Look at the words on spelling list # 6 on quizlet. If you think the word has a
pattern, write that word under PATTERNS. If you think the word belongs under SLEs
4 or 5 write the word under SLEs 4 and 5

4. Then, copy and answer this question:

How are the words related to SLEs 4 and 5?

A few tips:

• Do the SLE words first. That way it will be easier to see the
PATTERNS.

• For PATTERNS, look for:

-the number of syllables in the word

(ex. exhausted has THREE syllables)

-the sounds in the word

(ex.In grudge, there is a hard G at the
beginning and a soft G at the end of the word)
,
- the order of consonants and vowels
(ex. In the word council, two VOWELS make one
SOUND)

I WILL GO OVER THE ANSWERS FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT WITH YOU ON

TUESDAY. YES, YOU WILL STILL BE DOING THE QUIZLET CARDS. THESE
ARE ALSO DUE ON MONDAY.

WEDNESDAY - Title: Related words/SLE 6

Directions

1. Choose FIVE words on the list.

2. Find at least one other word that has the same root word for EACH of the five
words.
(ex. Words that are related to council are councilman and councilwoman)

FRIDAY - Title: Words with PATTERNS

Directions

1. Go back to the words you placed under patterns in Monday’s assignment. Do NOT
do this until AFTER we have corrected Monday’s assignment.

2. For each word, find a word that has the same pattern.
(ex. If the word is council, I need another word that has two vowels that make
one sound, like tournament)

FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT, YOU MAY NOT USE ANY OF THE WORDS FROM
THIS WEEK’S LIST. I WILL MARK INCOMPLETE IF YOU DO SO.
