Hello ! I am so excited to be bringing you this wonderful publication
for Pet Parents, Pet Lovers, Rescuers and the like.
My name is Sharon Cowell, publisher for the last 9 years of Mama's
Lil Guide magazine, the print publication for moms all over
Bucks/Mont.
I am a mama of 3 and fur mama of 3 dogs and 2 cats. I have been
a foster mama and volunteer for a local rescue, and want to help
advocate for as many as I can that do not have a voice.
I wanted to combine some of my passions of publishing, community,
rescues, local business and animals to create a resource that would
not only help local animals in need of a home or rescue, but provide
education, information and events to all people who have a passion
for helping and loving animals.
Every business that advertises with us will help to promote a
cat/dog/animal that is in rescue or at a local shelter that needs a
little more help getting noticed or seen.
Along with a highlighted feature picture and bio of the animal in the
publication, they will be posted on our Facebook page and in the online version.
We will also be highlighting rescue groups and adoption events in each issue along with pet friendly places, recipes and local
resources that need help.
Each issue will run 2 months and 10% off all ad sales each issue will go to a rescue of our choice. We hope to make House
Full of Paws Magazine an educational and valuable resource and help find homes for as many animals as we can. Enjoy!
For more information about advertising or adding an animal or event to our publication, contact Sharon Cowell, 267-312-1825
or email mamaslilguide@gmail.com.

Holistic Pet Care…What Does That Mean?
What does holistic actually mean and entail? As a veterinarian, it means evaluating your pet, usually a dog or cat,
from an overall picture of the entire animal—everything that could be affecting your pet’s health, such as the food
they eat, the lifestyle they enjoy along with the one you offer them, and the physical, mental, and emotional (yes, I
said emotional) influences in their lives.
Traditional veterinary medicine is often labeled the “drug” way of handling disease. Yet, as a veterinarian practic-
ing holistic pet care, the first thing I tell my clients is that drugs are not necessarily a bad thing unless they are
hurting more than helping. As an example, in acute severe pain management, it is important to help alleviate the
pain as quickly as possible, so the body can start the healing process. This can involve medications that start
quickly, followed by other modalities like acupuncture, chiropractic, laser therapy, nutrition, herbs, flower essences,
and whatever else is available to help the body “heal thy self” into a “healthy self”.
What can potential clients and their pets expect when they set up an appointment for a holistic care evaluation?
Well, first and foremost, I will ask you as the caregiver to provide the medical history that helps me put together the
puzzle of your pet’s dilemma: blood work, X-rays, nutrition, current supplements, and current medications—any
information that will provide a founda-
tion to help us put this puzzle together,
so a healing program can be put
forward for you and your pet.
I will recommend and we will put
together the next steps, utilizing the
modalities that are my special interests:
nutrition, which is always discussed;
Chinese acupuncture; Chinese herbs;
chiropractic; laser therapy or different
combinations, which may be modified
as the body responds. All of this
happens in a very calm relaxing
environment at my home/small farm.
There is no rushing, and the first
appointment is usually one hour. Your
pet will come to feel this is a “spa day
experience” and so will you!

10 Reasons Senior Cats Rule!

Here at CATS Bridge to Rescue we have plenty of senior and adult cats waiting for forever homes.
When senior cats are adopted, they seem to understand that they’ve been rescued, and are all the more
thankful for it.

A senior cat’s personality has already developed, so you’ll know if he or she is a good fit for your family.

You can teach an old cat new tricks Senior cats have the attention span and impulse control that makes them
easier to train than their youthful counterparts.

A senior cat may very well already know basic household etiquette (like not attacking your feet at night)
anyway!

In particular, senior cats are often already litter trained and are
less likely to “forget” where the box is.

A senior cat won’t grow any larger, so you’ll know exactly how
much cat you’re getting.

Senior cats are often content to just relax in your company, unlike
younger cats, who may get into mischief because they’re bored.

Speaking of relaxing, senior cats make great napping buddies.

Senior cats often know that scratching posts (not furniture) are for
scratching and toys (not hands or feet) are for biting.

Senior cats are some of the hardest to find homes for — so when you
adopt a senior cat, you’re truly saving a life.

This handsome stud is Bradley!
Bradley is a Pit Bull Terrier & Labrador Retriever Mix approx. 9 months old. Bradley
loves people and dogs. Like most young dogs he would benefit from a family willing to
work on training and basic manners so he can grow up to be his best self. Bradley
promises lots of love and laughs in return.
His $250 adoption fee includes basic vet care including neuter, age appropriate
vaccinations and microchipping.

Looking for a dog who's head tilt and soulful eyes will win you over day after day?
Henley is your man! Henley is a Pit Bull Terrier and Terrier Mix who is probably around 3
years old. He LOVES his people, and is so happy to give hugs and kisses, and in return
get lots of pets and attention. He is in our playgroup, and is kind of a "rough and
tumble" guy, but it's all in the name of fun! He keeps his kennel clean overnight *Most*
of the time, but any adopters should expect some transitional housebreaking.

Henley
Overall, Henley is just a sweet boy who would make a wonderful family pet!
Henley’s adoption fee is $200. Email: adoptions@dogtown309.com

Clyde is a Chihuahua Mix who was surrendered to the local shelter when his family
unfortunately had to move away. He lived with young kids, which we might not neces-
sarily do again given his bossy chi personality, but good to know! It seems he did well in
his home, and may have some pain in his hind leg area, which we will investigate further.
He also seems to prefer women to men, but could do well with either with slower intros.
Once Clyde warms up to you, he is sweet as can be. He loves to nibble on your fingers,
beg for your food, and LOVES to be chased by other dogs.
Clyde would benefit from an owner who has chihuahua experience and will go slow and

Clyde
do things on his terms. He could live with another dog who likes to play!

She is estimated to be about a year old and as much as she loves hanging out in our
playgroup with other dogs and saying hi to every person she meets she really would
love a home of her own.

252 Bethlehem Pike
Colmar, PA www.dogtownrescue.org
267-308-0459
Dog Town Rescue was started in 2013 when a bunch of volunteers from a local shelter wanted to do MORE to help the homeless
dogs in the Philadelphia area, and beyond.
One of these fine ladies, Jennifer Joseph, happened to own and operate a premier doggy daycare and boarding facility called
Dog Town, in Colmar, PA, the Philadelphia suburbs. Jenn felt that an adoptable dog who enjoyed romping with other dogs could
hang out and play in the daycare while looking for a new home. This worked well for a short while but both the overwhelming
number of dogs who needed her help, and the success of this model meant that the rescue quickly outgrew the one or two spaces
in the daycare and became its own official sister organization, Dog Town Rescue.
Dog Town Rescue is an official 501(c)3 not for profit organization. All donations are tax deductible, as allowed by the IRS. Our
dogs come from local shelters, and beyond, where they are often at high risk of euthanasia. When you adopt from us you truly
are saving a life, in addition to enriching your own!
Check us and our adoptable dogs out, and consider making a donation to help us with our life-saving rescue work.
There are also many volunteering opportunities :
• Adoption events • Walking dogs at our adoption centers, and helping with the care of the dogs • Transports; both from
shelters to our adoption centers, as well as to vet appointments, etc • Fundraising & collecting donations
Volunteers interacting directly with the dogs (walking, feeding, etc) must be at least 16 years old, for liability reasons, however
we can always put younger volunteers to work with much needed help like cleaning, dishes, stuffing peanut butter kongs, etc.
Volunteer orientation happens twice a month at our Colmar location. It is every second Wednesday of every month at 6pm.
Check out our events tab for specific dates.

Olivia came to us in November 2017 when we crossed paths with her in a local shelter
where she was heavily pregnant. A shelter is no place for a dog to have puppies so off
she came to Dog Town for a little quiet space to raise her brood....and she had quite the
brood! 12 puppies in total, all of whom are doing well and have moved onto their new
homes and lives.
Olivia developed a bit of a protective personality, which we think may be because of the
puppies she originally felt she had to protect. Now, she is queen of our daily play group,

Olivia
but is still exhibiting some of those behaviors.
Olivia requires slow introductions to new people, and does better when she is not in our
adoption center. We are looking for someone willing to put in the time to get to know
her, and to help her overcome her "stranger danger" fears once outside of our care.
When you know Olivia, you will have gained a loyal friend who regularly keeps you laughing. Her stumpy little legs and big
personality are so incredibly addictive. She loves to romp and play, and will sometimes even play bow her human friends. One
of her favorite things is engaging her human friends in a game of fetch, which should make for some fun backyard summer play
sessions. Sometimes, when she does "zoomies", we refer to her as Porky Pig (you have to see it to understand).
Olivia seems to be housetrained, and has earned herself a small mattress in her kennel. She sleeps like a queen with a bed full
of so many stuffed animals that the average toddler would be jealous.
Olivia lived with another dog in her former home, and has quite the posse of canine friends at Dog Town. We think she would
do great with another playful, friendly dog in a home. Email: adoptions@dogtown309.com

We strongly encourage everyone to Adopt from a local shelter or rescue.
Most of these animals have been left there due to no fault of their own and just want a loving human

donations. If you have spare time and can help in any capacity give them a call or visit their websites to see

Dear Vivian, Just Ask

Vivian
My dog Edward is normally well behaved however when we take
our shoes and socks off, he begins licking our feet like his life
depends on it. What gives? – Baffled Human

Dear Baffled Human,

Yes! I LOVE licking human feet! You may find it disgusting but I find it soothing and it helps
me to learn more about my humans. When I lick the feet I release endorphins which calm
me. My nose is superior to your nose and can smells thousands of times better than your
nose can. I can smell separately with each nostril and this really excites me! I learn so much
about my humans by sniffing and licking. It just means “I love you”. Adoringly yours,

Dear Vivian, Vivian

We are having a really BIG problem with our dog Jennifer eating our cat’s poop. She digs in the litter box
excavating for poo. Our cat is indoor/outdoor, and she sometimes poops outside also. Jennifer finds it immediately and it’s gone
before we can get there. Most dogs don't get sick after eating litter box treasures, but we are not sure what to do! Help!
– Avoiding Puppy Kisses
Dear Avoiding Puppy Kisses,
YUM and double YUM! I LOVE kitty treats! They smell just like kitty food and I LOVE kitty food. What aggravates me the most
is when I nose into the litter box and there is nothing there. My humans deny me my favorite treat by keeping the litter box
clean. They also moved it into the laundry room so I couldn’t get to it. Makes me mad really…. And funny thing, after I snack
on kitty treats my humans won’t let me kiss them. Not sure why, I think my breath smells fantastic!
Snackingly yours,
Vivian

Bella-Reed Pit Bull Rescue (BRPBR) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit pit
bull rescue organization located in Southeastern, Pennsylvania.

We are a small network of hardworking volunteers and foster

B
homes dedicated to advocating for the most misunderstood
breed in the world: The American Pit Bull Terrier. We are
completely devoted to the positive promotion of the pit bull.
While we work strictly out of the Philadelphia and NJ areas, we
network with rescue groups and other informative groups all
over the world.

We do not have a brick and mortar location for people to visit,

AKA a kennel or a shelter. We rely solely on our foster homes to
provide the love and care our dogs need until they find their
forever home. If you are interested in fostering, please visit our
foster page for more information and/or to submit foster
application.

Bella-Reed Pit Bull Rescue is named after Liss' first "born" Reed
and and her second pitty, Bella Blue, whom she adopted a few
years after rescuing Reed. Since then, she has fostered over
70 pit bulls in her home and foster "failed" three more.
Hershey, Pesto, and Nova Layne complete her pack of 5. She
also has started Bella-Reed Photography to help adoptable dogs
gain exposure and has taken most of the photos on their
website.
