LIBRARY

I. Introduction/ Rationale
Ever since the 19th century, libraries already became an essential part of a
community, especially in institutions where there is a need for learning and discovering
new information and ideas. Libraries give people the opportunity to explore different
areas of knowledge and get lost in wonderful stories, while at the same time providing a
sense of place for gathering and different forms of discussion. Moreover, school libraries
are integral to the teaching and learning process. They facilitate the work of the
classroom teacher and ensure that every student has equitable access to resources,
irrespective of home opportunities or constraints.
With that, it is necessary to ensure that the facilities inside a library are well-
maintained and are up-to-date. The libraries of the three departments of St. Bridget
College have various and diverse materials that are great sources of information and
knowledge. However, the demands of the 21st century call for modernization of the
libraries’ facilities. Nowadays, students are becoming more and more creative and
oftentimes this trait causes them to be interested only on things that have big impacts.
For this reason, the students from STEM -7 critically planned out and thought of possible
innovations that can improve the existing facilities of the libraries in the school. The
students believe that the experiences one encounters with the school library would be
more effective if the facilities and services are enhanced especially because of the 21st
century learners’ desire for a game-changing or eye-catching innovation.

II. Objectives of the Innovation/s in the Area

Generally, here are the objectives of the innovations that are made in the library.
1. To improve the facilities and ensure an enhanced learning experience for both students
and teachers.
2. To create an area that is very conducive in terms of learning both individually and in
groups.
3. To cater for differences in learning and teaching styles through the equality of access to a
wide range of curriculum resources such as fiction and non-fiction, digital, print, audio,
video and audio-visual.
4. To adapt advanced modern technologies and 21st-century methods of acquiring
knowledge for high-quality learning.
5. To aid in seeing, perceiving and solving problems in a creative manner.
6. To provide modernized design that gives comforts and radiates good ambiance to users.
7. To promote Bridgetine values such as the advocacy of WJPIC, particularly the value of
integrity of creation, through the use of tools and equipments that are not harmful to the
environment.

III. Description of Innovation/s

A. Uses

1. Front desk: The front desk can accommodate library users in their use of the library.
The people who stay there are important because they are the ones who run the library
and they make sure to keep everything in order.

2. Pod: The pod is a machine that provides convenience to the users of the library. It will
allow easy access on books. Once the searching is done, it will show the book's location
and if it is borrowed or readily available. It offers quick access to the material needed.

3. Group desks: Group desks are intended for users who want to study together with other
people. Through this, the users can have a quiet interaction while learning. It can also be
used for doing group assignments. When all tables for a single person are occupied,
group desks can be filled.

VI. Physics Concepts Exhibited by the Invention

1. Flow of electricity
Electricity is important so that appliances can be able to function and be
powered. Electricity is a flow of tiny particles called electrons which can travel
through wires. This flow is often called an electric current. An electric current is a
flow of electric charge. Also, electric current can be associated in the concept of
physics together with voltage, resistance and power. These concepts define the
flow of electricity.
Alternating current is the form of electricity that operates lights,
appliances, and outlets. Voltage is considered as the pressure of the electrons in a
system. Ohms is the measurement of resistance to the flow of electrons through a
conductive material. The higher the resistance, the lower the flow of electrons.
This resistance causes a certain amount of heat to be generated in the circuit.
Lastly, wattage indicates the rate at which electrical energy is dissipated, or
consumed. Each electrical device, such as a light fixture or appliance, has a rate of
usage measured in watts.

2. Earthquake-proof building
Due to the frequent occurrence of earthquakes, it is now necessary to
ensure that the facilities being built have a strong and long-lasting foundation. In
relation to that, engineers must ensure that the structures and their foundations are
resistant to potential horizontal loads by employing a number of key design
features such as diaphragms, trusses, cross-bracing, shear walls, moment-resisting
frames, and a light roof. Furthermore, the concept of building engineering physics
can be emphasized, which relates to the energy performance of buildings and their
indoor and outdoor environments. By properly understanding and applying
building engineering physics, it is possible to develop high performance buildings
that are comfortable and functional, and to minimize the environmental impacts of
their construction and operation.

3. Solar energy
Solar power energy can be associated with the concept of physics. A solar
panel works by allowing photons, or particles of light, to knock electrons free
from atoms, generating a flow of electricity. Solar panels actually comprise
smaller units called photovoltaic cells which simply means converting sunlight
into electricity. To work, this type of cells need an electric field that occurs when
opposite charges are separated.
A couple of other components of the cell turn these electrons into usable
power. Metal conductive plates on the sides of the cell collect the electrons and
transfer them to wires. At that point, the electrons can flow like any other source
of electricity.
