𝑟𝑦
Where, C = c/c spacing between lacing, ry = radius of gyration of built up section
Step 2: Size of End Batten (Cl. no. 7.7.2.3, IS 800:2007 page no. 51)
a. Find effective depth
de = a,
where, a = S’ + 2Cyy > 2bf
b. Find Overall depth
D = de + 2 × edge distance.
c. Find thickness of batten
Thickness of batten = 1/50 × Lb,
Where, Lb= S’ + 2g
S’ = clear distance between two section,
g = gauge distance taken from steel table.
Cyy = Find from steel table for column section
Step 3: Size of Intermediate Batten (Cl. no. 7.7.2.3, IS 800:2007 page no. 51)
a. Find effective depth
de = ¾ × a.
Where, a = S’ + 2Cyy > 2bf
b. Find Overall depth
D = de + 2 × edge distance.
c. Find thickness of batten
Thickness of batten = 1/50 × Lb , where, Lb= S’ + 2g
Step 4: Find design Forces on Battens (Cl. no. 7.7.2.1, IS 800:2007 page no. 51)
a. Transverse shear to be resisted Vt= 2.5% of the axial force.
b. Longitudinal shear
