Prerequisite Activity A: Importing the Data Extract


Definition.
Background

You will import an already existing Data Extract Definition. You have already seen a
demonstration of creating this data definition, so we will restrict this activity to importing
that data extract definition. We encourage you that at the end of this activity, please
browse through the definition and become familiar with the user interface.

Requirements

 Use the bold text for the object names, replacing the XX with your initials.
 You must have access to Oracle Fusion Application InFusion database or
comparable training or test instance at your site, on which to complete this
practice.
 You will need to access and download the sample Data Extract Definition file
called "Sample Extract_2014-08-21.pdf" which is found in the Activites Guide
directory on beehiveonline. The full URL is

Prerequisite Activity A: Importing the Data Extract Definition


Start Here
Sign on as curtis.feitty to go to the Welcome page.

1. On the global area Navigator menu, select Data Exchange.

2. Click on Manage Extract Definitions.

3. In the Manage Extract Definitions page click on Import Extract

4. Name the extract with as XX HR Data Extract where XX are your initials.

5. Select US LDG from the list

6. Browse and select the Extract Definition file called "Sample Extract_2014-08-

21.pdf" mentioned in this Activity's Prerequisite section above.

7. Click OK to start the import.

8. Click OK to dismiss the Download box.

9. Click Search button to requery the page to see your new import.

10. Click on your new Data Extract Definition

11. If you are not on the Validate step, click Validate, you'll notice that the Fast
Formulas are have a red x next to them, indicating that they are not compiled.

12. Click "Compile All Formulas"

13. Click on Submit.

14. Sometimes this zone in the page has an issue refreshing, so click on
Deliver and then click on Validate several times until such time as the
red x's have moved to be green checkmarks. At this time, you should
have a successful HCM Extract Definition that matches the .rtf and .xsd
files that will be used in later activities.

Activity 1: Creating BI Publisher Report Template


Background
You require a report template for a formatted report that shows employee data with
details about each employee by each department in the US legislative data group.

Requirements

 Use the bold text for the object names, replacing the XX with your initials.
 You must have access to Oracle Fusion Application InFusion database or
comparable training or test instance at your site, on which to complete this
practice.
 JDK 7 is installed on the machine you are using for this activity.
 BI Publisher Desktop has been downloaded and installed on the machine you
are using for this activity.
 The TemplateBuilderforWord/tmp folder exists in the application data on the
machine you are using. (Check the BI Publisher tab's About box in Microsoft
Word for the full path to the tmp folder. If it doesn't exist, create it.)

Demonstration Scopes

1. Import the RTF template and create the BI Publisher report template.
2. Add the BI Publisher report template to your extract definition delivery options.

Activity 1: Creating BI Publisher Report Template


In this activity you create the BI Publisher report template from your RTF template.

Start Here
Sign on as curtis.feitty to go to the Welcome page.

3. On the global area Navigator menu, under Tools, select Reports and
Analytics.

Location: Reports and Analytics work area.

4. Under the Create button icon, click Report.

Information
This will open a new tab in the browser for Business Intelligence and display a
Create Report window after several moments.

Location: Business Intelligence Create Layout page.

5. In the Create Report window, click Cancel, and then click OK.

Location: Data Model page.

6. In the Upload or Generate Layout section, click Upload.

Location: Upload Template File window

7. In the Upload Template File window, enter the following:


- Layout Name: XX DeptEmpTemplate
- Template File: Click Browse and select DeptEmployees.rtf.
- Type: RTF Template
- Locale: English (United States)

8. Click the Upload button.

9. Toward the top of the window, click the Search icon button.

Location: Select Data Model window

10. In the Select Data Model window select the globalReportsDataModel data
model.

Information
You will find this data model in the following hierarchy: Shared Folders >
Human Capital Management > Payroll > Data Models.

11. Click OK.

Information
You should see globalReportsDataModel selected above your template.

12. Click the Save Report icon button ( ).

13. In the Save As window, click the HCM Demo Content folder.

14. In the Name field, enter XX DeptEmpTemplate.

15. Click the OK button.

In this activity you created the BI Publisher report template from your RTF template

Activity 2: Creating Extract Delivery Options


In this activity you configure the extract delivery options for your extract definition to use
the new report template in BI Publisher.

Start Here
Edit Extract Definition page.

1. Navigate to the Edit Extract Definition page for your XX HR Data Extract:

a. In the global area Navigator menu, select Data Exchange.

Location: Data Exchange work area.

b. In the left pane, click Manage HCM Extract Definitions.

Location: Manage HCM Extract Definitions page

c. In the Type list, select HR Archive.

d. In the Legislative Data Group list, select US LDG.

e. Click the Search button.

f. In the Search Results section, click your extract name, XX HR Data


Extract.

Location: Edit Extract Definition page.

2. In the left pane, select the Extract Delivery Options node.

3. In the Extract Delivery Options section, click the Add icon button.

4. In the Delivery Option Name field, enter RTF Output.

5. In the Output Type list, select RTF.

6. In the Report field, enter /HCM Demo Content/XX DeptEmpTemplate.xdo


where XX is your initials.

Information
This is the path and report template you saved in the previous activity.

7. In the Output Name field, enter DeptEmployees.

8. In the Report Layout field, enter XX DeptEmpTemplate.

9. In the Delivery Type list, select None.

10. Click the Submit button.

Information
The extract process that you submit in the next activity is updated.

In this activity you configured the extract delivery options for your extract definition to
use the new report template in BI Publisher.

Activity 3: Running a Simple Extract Process


Background
You run a report that shows employee data with details about each employee by each
department in the US legislative data group.

Activity 3: Running a Simple Extract Process


In this activity, you run your extract process and view its results.

Start Here
Sign on as hcm_impl and to go to the Welcome page.

1. In the global area Navigator menu under Payroll, select Checklists.

Location: Payroll Checklist work area.

2. In the left pane, select the Submit a Process or Report task.

Location: Submit a Process or Report: Select Flow Pattern page.

3. In the Legislative Data Group list, select US LDG.

4. In the Flow Pattern column, select the row containing XX HR Data Extract,
where XX is your initials.

5. Click the Next button.

Location: Submit a Process or Report: Enter Parameters page

6. In the Payroll Flow field, type XX HR Archive 1, where XX is your initials.

Information
This is the name of the extract run you are initiating. You use this name to search
for its status and results later.

7. In the Effective Date field, use the date picker to select today's date.

8. Click the Next button.

Location: Submit a Process or Report: Enter Flow Interaction page

9. Click the Next button.

Location: Submit a Process or Report: Review page

10. Click the Submit button.

11. In the Confirmation window, click OK and View Checklist.

Location: Payroll Flow page

12. Click the Refresh icon button ( ) until the Status column shows tasks have
completed.

Information
This can take a minute.
13. Click the Go to Task icon button ( ).

Location: Processes and Reports tab.

Information
If your task status is Error ( ), click the Process 123456 link, where 123456 is
your process number. This will display the ESS Output page. Click the View Log
icon button ( ), click the link to contents of the log file, and work with your
instructor to resolve any problems.

14. Click the View Results icon button ( ).

15. In the View Results window, click the file name, DeptEmployees.rtf.

16. In the Open window, accept the default to open with Microsoft Office Word, and
click the OK button.

Information
Word with convert the RTF format and present it with formatting based on the
report in BI Publisher. The report includes employee data organized by
department.

In this activity, you ran an extract process and viewed its results.

Troubleshooting Tips:

Problem: No report is produced.

Solution: Ensure that the path to the report is correct in the extract delivery options. It
must be exactly as set in Activity 8 and must end with the .xdo file extension.

Problem: Report contains no data.

Solution 1: Ensure that the criteria expression for the Departments data group has
‘%Support%’ exactly as shown. This is case sensitive and percentage sign and single
quotes are required. Also check other criteria for typos.

Solution2: Ensure that the extract delivery options show the report name and template
name exactly as created and that the name of the report has the .xdo extension.

Problem: Report is missing Employee Details data.

Cause/Solution: The wrong level was selected in the Table Wizard when creating the
RTF. Repeat the steps in Activity 7 and ensure you select the grouping field that ends
with “Departments” when creating the first table.

Activity 4: Explore Oracle Enterprise Repository

In this activity, you view available reports, data model diagrams, and database tables in
Oracle Enterprise Repository (OER).

Start Here

1. In Mozilla Firefox, enter and go to https://fusionappsoer.oracle.com.

2. Click the Login as Guest button.

3. In the left-hand section of the page, under enter Search String, enter Human
Capital Management Reports.

4. Click Search.

5. From the search results, select Human Capital Management Reports, Version
11.1.8.0.

6. Click the Documentation tab.

7. Click Human Capital Management Report Listing.

8. Open the Excel file and view all available reports. Filter in the Product column to
narrow results.

1. Under Assets, in the Type list, select Data Model Diagram.

2. In the Product Family list, select Human Capital Management.

3. Click Search.

4. Select Global Human Resources (PER), Version 11.1.8. .

5. In the lower section of the window, in the Logical Diagram column, click Logical
- HcmTop-HcmExtractsTop-HcmExtractsSetup.pdf.

Information
A new tab is displayed in the browser with the logical diagram.

6. Zoom in to view the logical relationships.

7. Close the new tab in the browser.

View a Database Table

1. In the Type list, select Table.

2. Leave the Product Family as Human Capital Management.

3. Click Search.

4. Scroll down to select the _ORG_CLASSIFICATIONS_TL table.

5. Click the Details tab.
