Preface to the 8th Edition of Learning Material 2018

( 3rd Web Edition)

The 8th edition of Learning Material with updation in HR Chapter is presented. You may aware
that the first five editions from 2011 to 2015 were published in Book Form. The 6 th, 7th and the
present 8th edition are in web edition and available in our intranet.

We may look back to the year 2011, consequent to introduction of promotional examination for
eligible officers of GIPSA companies in the year 2007, when the then General Manager (HRD)
NICian K.P.Brahma planned bringing out Learning Material in the form of a book to help
eligible candidates prepare for promotional examination, especially of our Company.

The entire project including compilation, editing, printing and delivery of the Learning
Material was entrusted to NICian Satyendra Singh the then Principal, NCIL and NICian
Ujjwal Bhattacharya, the then Faculty Member, NCIL.

NICian Ujjwal Bhattacharya, Faculty Member, NCIL shouldered the entire responsibility of

compiling and editing the whole publication which he continued up to 3 edition with the help of
contributors of various sections and team NCIL and the same had continued till 5th edition with a
new team consisting of NICians Gautam Nag, Principal,Ujjwal Bhattacharya, Faculty Member and
Bijoy Chowdhury, AM who have executed the compilation and editing job.

While preparing for 6th edition of Learning Material the matter was brought to the notice of
NICian Kamlesh Vasisth, the then General Manager (HRD) who had suggested to upload the
Learning Material in Company’s Website by using Information Technology services.

In view of the above the Team NCIL along with HO IT, created a website (as an e-portal in our intranet)
named nicmasters/ncil for uploading the same specially for Officers and all the Employees. The intranet
site will have in it various Class room presentations, On line test (Mock Test) for promotional
Examination, Study material ( Subject wise), Circular Search Engine in addition to Photo Gallery and
important information about NCIL and its Campus. Again responsibility of designing and preparation of
web site has been taken care by NICian Ujjwal Bhattacharya, Manager, HO IT.

We sincerely thank the contributors of various sections since the inception of Learning Material.

Hope, the Learning Material in electronic format will be useful to all users, more specifically for
the officers appearing in the ensuing promotional examination. Since learning is a continuous
process our Learning Material will also be updated from time to time.

All suggestions for improvement of the Learning Material for future will be highly appreciated
at our end.
