The Gaelic Community in Aberdeen


Club Gàidhlig Obar Dheathain / Aberdeen Gaelic Club
CGOD run Gaelic classes (evenings and occasional weekends) and monthly ‘srùbagan’ or tea and
cake afternoons. Currently it is running Gaelic for Beginners evening classes, and discounts are

Coisir Ghàidhlig Obar Dheathain / Aberdeen Gaelic Choir


Meets every Tuesday in Holburn West Church, off Great Western Road, at 7.30pm. New members
are welcome at any time but it’s often best to check with the secretary in case the choir is having a
week off! Email: aberdeengaelichoir@googlemail.com (Secretary). Performs at local events and takes

awards for her beautiful singing. Check also the band Dòchas, with whom she is a member.
Capercaille: http://www.capercaillie.co.uk/: formed in the 1980s and, along with Runrig, have been a
huge influence in popularising Gaelic music

Mairead Stiùbhart: http://www.margaretstewart.com/: one of Scotland’s finest Gaelic traditional
singers, from the Isle of Lewis.

Kathleen MacInnes: http://kathleenmacinnes.com/: Wonderful Gaelic singer from Uist whose vocals
appear in the latest Robin Hood movie.
