SUMMARY

The primary objectives of this study are to assess the career choice

factors and its relation to the academic performance of Grade 12 students

at Tanauan City College, as a basis for thesis. Specifically, it sought to

address the questions; 1) What are the determinants and factors of

environment and how it helps the student in leading a particular direction?

2) How opportunities might have influenced a student’s career choice? 3)

v
Why the perceptions of one’s personality may have determined the route

they took in their career choice process? and 4) How does the interest

influence the career choice of an individual?

Moreover, this study served as a basis used to come up with the career

guidance plan. It benefits all the grade 12 senior high students to decide

effectively and sufficiently on their career path. On the other hand, the

school could also provide appropriate curriculum based upon the selection

of the program of students and the demands of the society. Thus, teachers

and school administrator would be more proficient on providing the needs

of the students on becoming globally competitive individuals.

This study used survey questionnaires on gathering the data from the

grade 12 senior high school students at Tanauan City College. The result of

the data was thoroughly tabulated and analyzed.

Quantitative descriptive correlation research design was used on

testing the significant relationship between the senior high school students’

academic performance and the factors affecting career choice which are

concerned with their future decision making in choosing a career.

vi
The results of this study interpret the significant relationship of one or

more factors to the academic performance of the students. It entails that

students were particular with their personality traits and the opportunities

with the average weighted mean of 3.90 and 3.66 respectively unlike with

the environment. The null hypothesis for environment with average

weighted mean of 3.16 signifies that students were either agree or disagree

on associating themselves with the society. Thus, the findings of this study

concluded that personality and opportunity were best considered by the

students compared with environment.
