ALL PROGRAMS

Bug Fixes
In the 2D ranging graphs, changes to the background colour were being ignored. SPEED-2339

In the 2D ranging graphs, the Show points option was lost when switching Colour scheme. SPEED-2283

The HEEDS optimisation setup dialog was not being displayed correctly in cases where a scaling factor was
applied in the Windows screen resolution dialog. SPEED-2160

Improvements
To give guidance when using the 2D ranging function the error messages in cases of incorrect setup have
been improved. Two (and only two) parameters must be set for this so if the incorrect number is set the error
message now explains what is required and lists any current set ranging parameters. SPEED-2291

The .xgdf files created by the GDF export function are now no longer prettified (indented and separated by
tag). This speeds up both creation and processing considerably. SPEED-2122

The 2D ranging function introduced in 13.02 for PC‑BDC has now been implemented in all the other
programs. SPEED-2214, 2232, 2215, 2259-2262

The 2D ranging graphs now implement full colour scheme support so settings can be created for the 4
standard colour schemes independently. SPEED-2263

SPEED v13.04 | Release Notes

PC-BDC

Bug Fixes
With multi-phase machines (4ph,6ph and 9ph), the standard inverter voltages were not being calculated.
SPEED-2354

Two errors in the calculation of RotType=IPM, Embed=Type6 and VEdges=Rounded geometry have been
corrected. These would lead to incorrect display and FEA meshing errors. SPEED-2307, 2350

With some combinations of WdgType=ConcSine and Throw>180/Poles it was possible to end up with
negative values for the number of turns which would cause errors in the wire calculations. Negative turns are
now detected. SPEED-2349

With RotType=IPM, Embed=Type4, Cweb>0 and Poles<>4 the d-axis centre web was incorrectly
dimensioned (it was being calculated slightly narrower than it should have been). SPEED-2342

With RotType=Breadloaf, Embed=Not, Nmbp>1, DimGroup=Alter1 and MagFlush=True the GDF export
was incorrect. This has been fixed along with cases where Rmo<>Rad1. SPEED-2337

With RotType=Breadloaf, Embed=Not, Nmbp>1, DimGroup=Alter1 the check for intersecting magnet blocks
would sometimes fail to detect overlapping magnets. SPEED-2336

The weight of magnet calculation was wrong with RotType=BreadLoaf and Embed=Type4. SPEED-2310

After running an Autosearch calculation looking for a specific torque the ACTarget parameter would be
wrongly identified as a ranging parameter when running a ranging calculation. This would not affect the results
but would prevent 2D ranging from running (see SPEED-2291 above). ACTarget is now ignored in these
cases. SPEED-2293

In the i-psi Skewed and Polygon GoFERs the current density units were being incorrectly set to A/in2 when
used with imperial dimensions. These are now set to A/mm2 in all cases. SPEED-2288

When using the slot-permeance GoFER for a machine with EMFCalc=KFR and Nmbp=1 a magnet region
was wrongly created in the GDF export. SPEED-2280

When using the slot-permeance GoFER for a machine with Config=BifTeeth the GDF export was incorrect.
SPEED-2279

Some geometric parameters (Inset and Cweb for RotType=IPM with Embed=Type4) used in the outline
editor were missing from the output design sheet. SPEED-2216
When both XLph and Lext were non-zero running a simulation multiple times would result in changes to Lext.
A new output parameter LextX has been added so that Lext is no longer changed. SPEED-1782

The sequence of pages in the GoFER dialog was incorrect when moving backwards and forwards when using
the slot-permeance GoFER. SPEED-2267

An error in the display of coils (which typically manifested itself when using coil-side models) has been fixed.
SPEED-2191

Siemens PLM Software 8

SPEED v13.04 | Release Notes

Improvements
When using LamShape = PolyT or PolyV the Rad3 circle is now displayed to give an indication of the stator
yoke dimension as used in the calculations. This is of particular importance when Poles is small.
SPEED-2233

Export functions for the system simulation tool Simcenter Amesim have been added. The first of these
populates the Amesim parametric model of a synchronous machine (PM or wound-field) for rapid analysis and
the second runs multiple static designs in PC‑BDC to create table files of inductance and loss versus Id, Iq and
rpm for greater accuracy. In both cases the exported data is placed in a new folder (named after the data file
but with the .s2a extension) suitable for import into Amesim.

Siemens PLM Software 9

SPEED v13.04 | Release Notes

With Tool>Simcenter Amesim>Parameter export an xml file is created in the .s2a folder containing Amesim
model parameters as calculated by the previous successful simulation (either Static or Dynamic). The xml file
is shown before export. For more information on the parameters please see the Amesim documentation.

Siemens PLM Software 10

SPEED v13.04 | Release Notes

With Tool>Simcenter Amesim>Table export it is necessary to specify the range of current (ISP), phase
advance (gamma) for the inductance calculations and, optionally the speed (rpm) over which the losses are
to be calculated. In addition to using the standard Static design simulation (which can use ipsiCalc=PC-FEA
or Simcenter STAR-CCM+) a more rigorous simulation can be carried out by means of the FEA options. This
runs a full i-psi GoFER calculation at each operating point and calculates the average inductance for each
run. The elements table model can also be used to calculate the iron loss using either the Modified Steinmetz
or BertottiF models. For the latter BertottiF method only one or 2 harmonics (NFeHx) are required and
produces well behaved results with a small number of rotor positions and is not as subject to the aliasing
effects or noise as the time based Modified Steinmetz analysis.

ISP, gamma and rpm have the same meanings as in PC-BDC. The range of the values should be chosen to
cover the area of interest in the Amesim simulation. The value of the Steps parameters are used to control
the size of the resulting tables. Higher values provide finer resolution at the expense of simulation time.
Similarly the ipsiCalc and FEA options can trade off accuracy for speed of calculation. Note that a large table
generation with FEA and elemnt table based iron-loss calculations can take a considerable amount of time.
SPEED-2227-2229
An addition to the geometry template for RotType=BreadLoaf, Embed=Type4 and Rib=0 means that the
outer surface of the magnet can now be profiled. Also in these cases, Inset can now be set to control the q-
axis dimension. RBround can be used to set this to either flat or round. SPEED-2285

SPEED v13.04 | Release Notes

An illustration of the conductor distribution in a slot can now be displayed in the Winding editor for most
common scenarios. This function also works with the coil-side model (CSModel) and assumes a regular
distribution pattern, interleaved or stacked and either centred on a conductor or on the inter-conductor space
(WirePat). The wire diameter, insulation thickness are shown and an additional conductor spacing (WireSep)
can also be used to further separate the conductors. SPEED-1321

A new function Analysis>Optimised torque/speed, has been added for machines with Drive=Sine. The normal
torque/speed characteristic uses fixed control angles but this function automatically searches for the optimum
value of gamma at each speed resulting in greater torque for the same current, ISP.

Siemens PLM Software 12

SPEED v13.04 | Release Notes

TSMin, TSMax and NTSpoints can be used for influencing the speed range (TSMin is inactive for the
optimised torque/speed curve) and the numbers to be calculated. SPEED-664

More geometries are now available by setting RBarType=None for RotType=Trapeze machines. Although
these are no longer line-start machines (simply IPM) they may be of theoretical interest. SPEED-2101

T-gamma plot can now be shown with interpolation by monotonic cubic spline rather than piecewise linear.
This produces more natural looking curves. SPEED-2139

Siemens PLM Software 13

SPEED v13.04 | Release Notes

A 5th layer for RotType=IPM and Embed=Type6 for both values of DimGroup has been added. This uses the
same parameters as the original 4 layers. SPEED-2073

RBround is now used with more cases when RotType=Breadloaf (specifically Embed=Not or Type4 and with
Embed=Type2 with Rmi=0) to control the shape of the rotor body. Previously (for Embed=Type1) a negative
value of Inset could be used for the same purpose. SPEED-2314

Inset is measured along the q-axis and is positive in both cases shown above. Old files with Inset < 0 will be
updated automatically to RBRound=True.

PC-IMD

Bug Fixes
An error could occur when exporting geometry via any GoFER when either RadSh2 or RadSh3 are set to 0. A
0 value now means that RadSh is used as originally intended. SPEED-2286

The coil list display in the winding editor for single phase windings has been improved by removing the Bif
column (when not used). In addition, an error in the display of coil-sides has been fixed. SPEED-2191

SPEED v13.04 | Release Notes

PC-SRD

Bug Fixes
In the .xgdf file <winding> has been changed to <windings> to prevent confusion with full coil list exports.
SPEED-2258

The MagCurv=Froh/X, Univ/X or UG98/X methods failed to work unless LoopWfm<> false. This was
because they relied on the ipsi.psi file being created. This entire function has been rewritten to store the
temporary information in memory which also has the benefit of being faster than previously. SPEED-2296

A long-standing bug in the cubic spline interpolation routines, which under certain circumstances would lead
to errors when running with external magnetisation curves, has been fixed. SPEED-2315

Improvements
A Windows>View status messages menu item has been added to bring PC‑SRD into line with the other
programs. SPEED-2317
