Vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs) is the sub class of mobile ad-hoc networks (MANETs)
which came into being by deploying the rules of MANETs in VANETs. We can say that
VANETs are the abrupt creation of wireless ad-hoc network for inter and intra vehicular data
communication. VANETs were first introducecd in 2002 by Federal Communication
Commission (FCC), where ad-hoc networks can be created and information can be propagated
among the cars. It was proposed that vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure
(V2I) will coexists at the same time in VANETs in order to provide road and human safety.
VANETs are a vital component of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) environment.
VANETs are also called as ITS by various researchers.
VANETs have a lot of applications from one hop to multi hop flooding of Cooperative
Awareness Messages (CAMs). Some of the major applications are listed below:
