7. Objectives
To develop a system that will help the coordinator organize the students record and every
requirement they need to be qualify to do internship.
To develop a system that will notify the interns who are still not complete in requirements
and can Identify those who are ready to be deployed.
To design a system that will help the coordinator to prepare the forms and lessen the cost
of the papers used in re-printing.
To design a system that will classify the task given to the intern if it is related to their field
of specialization
The study benefitted OJT coordinators in monitoring and assessing OJT students that are enrolled in the
practicum course. The OJT adviser was able to see the updates, submittals, concerns of the OJT students immediately
that allowed the OJT coordinators to act on the situation promptly.
OJT students
The study benefited the OJT students because the study provided a portal that enabled them to be updated on the
notifications from the OJT adviser and the industry partners. The study provided the OJT student quick submission
option for the required submittals of their practicum, total OJT rendered and credited hours during their practicum.
The OJT student also benefited from the study by knowing in advance the available jobs that the industry partners
needed.

The article reviews the nature of all biomedical application discoveries which are available
and used in different biomedical researches as they give advantages in increasing the
productivity and mobility of the said researches. All accessible application present in
Google and Apple app store were surveyed and listed according to their classification and
use namely, sequence analysis and alignment, structure builder and viewer, equipment
displacement, peripheral device dependants, laboratory calculators, protocol assistant apps,
and database apps. Uses, limitations, and potentials of each classification of applications
were discussed. Thus, as advancement in mobile technology increases, the world of
research must continuously use the application of existing technology to improve research
efficiency and accuracy.

Detection: From Microscope to Smartphone. doi: 10.1016/j.bios.2014.04.014
The paper discusses the overview of currently available bacterial detection systems from
the traditional microscopic ways (use of microscopes) to modern and digital means (use of
smartphones and portable devices). It also describes the three ways which bacterial sensing
used in diagnoses such as bacterial morphological visualization, specific detection of the
bacterial component and whole cell detection. The research presented critical reviews on
every ways and practices of how scientific researches on bacterial detection was made. The
information given for each ways discussed is significant in the analysis of the differences
of each bacterial detection systems are being applied.

The article discusses the significant use of biosensor for the fast and accurate detection of
E. coli in drinking water. Based on the analyzation of results, the length of detection of the
bacteria response ranges from 30 to 120 minutes which is more effective compared to other
types of detection techniques such as Membrane Filtration. The study generalizes that use
of biosensor can give both industry and regulatory authorities a useful tool for near real-
time monitoring of E. coli in drinking water samples.

or any other reagents. The study focused on screening contaminations on meat products by
adding Escherichia coli K12 solutions to ground beef to simulate microbial spoilage.
Infrared LED was irradiated perpendicularly to the surface of the meat scattering signals
at various sensors evaluated using gyro sensors and the camera of a smartphone. The study
concludes that E.Coli concentrations vary the angle maximizing the Mie scatter which
produces significant accurate results.

In this study, the researchers presented the mobile application’s usability evaluation and
testing. It is also determined in the study that requirements of new mobile user interfaces
were never addressed in any kind of scientific research. Particular measurement methods
utilized in both field studies and hands-on measurement was surveyed to determine its
significance on mobile applications usability in terms of portability, location awareness,
and accessibility.

form wastewater with the application of paper microfluidics. The study used paper chip
pre-loaded with BSA-conjugated and anti-E. Coli-conjugated beads in different amounts.
The antibody-conjugated beads underwent immunoagglutination after dipping the paper
chips into the wastewater leading E.Coli antigens to travel through paper fibers while

effectively filtering out contaminants. Using the smartphone, digital images were taken at
an optimized angle. The immunoagglutination was quantified by evaluating Mie scattering
from the captured images. The detected organisms only include single-cell-level and
consumed less than one-minute total assay.

Samples Using a Smart-Phone. ACS Nano, 2014, 8 (2), 1121–1129. doi:

The article describes the significant use of the smartphone-based hand-held platform in
order to quantify the presence of mercury in water samples with parts per billion (pbb)
level of sensitivity. The digital quantification of mercury concentration is made possible
by attaching an integrated opto-mechanical attachment to the built-in camera of the mobile
device. The detection platform generated mercury contamination map by measuring water
samples in different places in California (USA) tap water sources like rivers, lakes, and
beaches. Despite the sensitivity of the detection platform, it gives cost-effective design,
field portability, and wireless data connectivity which become more useful for distributing
water contamination information.

Algorithm for improved colony counting. doi: 10.1038/an977
This article discusses the development of the APD Colony Counter app utilized by the
A*STAR Bioinformatics Institute and James Cook University to count colonies and
quantify bacteria on sample colony plates accurately and fast. The application used the
built-in camera of the smartphone to process the images of colony plates and automatically
counts them. The watershed algorithm was incorporated into the segmentation and
detection to distinguish clustered or merged colonies. The app generally transforms the
smartphone into an on-the-go colony counter providing less tedious task in counting
colonies manually.
