" A Successful Certified Public Accountant"

I. INTRODUCTION

What do you usually picture in your mind when you hear the word ABM? Many teenagers said
that it is Accountancy, Business and Management. Did you all know that if business did not
exist. We will can not encounter SM, Gaisano, 7 Eleven and etc. Can you imagine that?

Many people think of accounting as a back office function, a necessity that businesses simply
cannot avoid. The reality is that accounting information is the lifeblood of all business
management decisions. Without accountants, various stakeholders would not be able to
assess the financial condition of a business. Managers would have no basis for the constant
choices they confront. They would not be able to evaluate past events or current policies.
Organizations would be unable to comply with taxation regulations. This crucial business
function is quite broad and offers many exciting career opportunities.

II. TRUE TO LIFE STORY CPA Story by Melissa Mei Sumilong

BS Accountancy. Actually, this is not my first choice, but I just took it because it's a great place
to go to school where I went. At first, I thought it was easy and I was happy when I read my
Accounting subjects. But when our accounting subjects grew in the third year, there was a
pressure on me. It is difficult to synchronize the lesson of 4 or 5 major subjects in one semester,
and what is worse is 0-based all, 80% is required passing percentage in our school and you do
not know how much adjustment the professor will do for many passes. There are times when
the major subjects reach a unit of 18 units or 21 units that require a lot of hours of study plus
many other requirements. Because of that, I've really tried to use my time to adjust my grades
and to help at home even through my scholarship, but it's hard to avoid being foolish. Because
of cramming, it is time to understand that my quality of understanding of major subjects has
been another short-term memory. I think that I will also understand the topics in the future,
maybe before boarding, extra effort and just praying. After graduation, just a few months
before the board exam, I felt I was trying hard undergrad but I did not really prepare for the
exam Even so I did not lose hope. I believed in one of my favorite verse: For the Lord gives
wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding; Proverbs 2: 6. This is one of my
motivations. I studied for the exam, and at the same time I also prayed and read the Bible.
Reading the Bible is really good, because the Word of God can give you not only knowledge and
understanding but also wisdom. During the review I was basically reading books and review
materials and avoided listening to the class. At times I doubled the attendance of a topic to
different reviewees so I could understand something. And in the examination day, there are
very poor items actually. There is a time when I was calculating, I was praying so I can able to
pass a paper. When the result came out I saw my name on the list of passers. Fulfilling, because
the years you've spent have earned. Melissa passed the CPA exam last October 2016 and
graduated from a graduate of De La Salle Lipa.

What I can say to the next batches is to pray always, you can start praying today. Pray before
studying, thank God at the time he gave your knowledge and trust Him. Pray also before the
exam and always thank Him for helping you. 'Do not forget to thank your school and professors
who taught you. There may be times when you are struggling because of them but they are the
ones who implore you to exert more accounting efforts. Also thank the people who prayed and
supported you. They play a big role in your success. Next is, study well. Study as many as you
can. It is difficult to finish all the books and review materials, so understand the basic concepts
and pray for the exit board exam. And another advice is to sleep well. Do not deprive yourself
of sleep. Cool also, rest your brain cells. Productive also every hour has a few minutes of rest.
Hope to help that. God bless future CPAs. Hope you'll make it.

V. CONCLUSION

There were many people saying that " Don't get the course ABM, it was too difficult"
Unfortunately, they are the one who's doing pitiful for themselves. Why?! Because,
instead of hardworking, hardships, and doing the best for themselves, they aren't doing
this, they don't have trust on their selves that they can do this. After all sacrifices, and
difficulties I'd faced. I still can do it, can make the journal balance, on what entry to do
with debit and credit side. Hence, being an accountant I've really desired for was not
easy, but I thank God for giving this opportunities to inspired other people who's in
conflict. Also, we can't achieve our dreams without hardships, just like the Accounts
Receivable- we should record it to the debit side and not credit. Therefor, it will not
going to be underestimate.
