Introduction

Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) revealed the Top Major Cities Population on website on August
28th, 2017 .

6th Population and Housing Census, carried out across the country from 15th March to 24th May 2017

Team Pulse by using PBS data points of last three census (i.e. #CensusYear1981, #CensusYear1998 and
#CensusYear2017) developed a comparative analysis which will show the growth sectors

#Karachi continues to be the biggest city of Pakistan (14.9M Population) with a growth rate of 59.7%

The braking news comes from #Lahore which emerged as New population with highest
population growth of 116.6% followed by #Peshawar 100.4%

#Faisalabad has out populated #Rawalpindi as the third biggest city of #Pakistan with a population
growth rate of 59.4%.

#Rawalpindi has maintained the 4th position with a growth rate of 48.8%.

Conventionally, #Faisalabad has been considered fourth after Twin Cities - #Islamabad & #Rawalpindi
which even with their combined population fall short of Faisalabad. There is no doubt that #Faisalabad is
Metro city

Definition of Metro city is more than 2 Million has become the 5th most
populous city and a Metro (population < 2million) (Previously it was ay 7th number by population)
#Key_Highlights

#Peshawar, overall ranked 6th is at a fringe of becoming another metro with a population of 1,970,042.
The city has by passed #Multan for the spot. (Previously it was at Ranked 8th by population)

Population trends reflecting that next couple of years would witness #Multan and #Hyderabad becoming
Metros with their current population numbers at 1.8 and 1.7 million, respectively.

Karachi, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Hyderabad have all conceded their share of the major cities pie to Lahore,
Peshawar and Islamabad.
