PED 701: Pedagogical Theory and Practice

DETAILED LESSON PLAN

I. Preliminaries
a. Title of the Lesson: Addition of Integers
b. Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding of order of operations, ratio and proportion,
percent, exponents, and integers.
c. Performance Standard: The learner is able to apply knowledge of order of operations, ratio and
proportion, percent, exponents, and integers in mathematical problems and real-life situations.
d. Learning Competency: The learner performs addition on integers. (M6NS-IIi-156)
e. Learning Objectives: At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
1. Perform addition of integers
2. Give examples and the rule in adding integers independently
3. Appreciate the importance of saving money
f. Scientific skills to be developed: Communicating, Inferring
g. Key Concepts:
 Integers
 Positive Number
 Negative Number
h. Materials: Manila paper, Cartolina, Activity Sheets, Number Line, Picture Cut-outs

II. Plan of Lesson Delivery

a. Class Routine Activities:
1. Opening Prayer
2. Attendance Report
3. Checking of Classroom Set-up
4. Drill: Compare the following pair of integers using the number line.
1) +12, -6
2) -8, +10
3) +5, -9
4)+15, +12
5) -15, -5
b. Motivation: Show the pupils the pictures of a piggy bank and a container with savings.
c. Lesson Proper:
Teacher Student(s)
Good morning class. Good morning Sir.

Do you save money? Yes sir!

How do we find out the savings left after spending
part of the savings?
Helaine, Please read the problem on the board
(The student the will read the problem posted on the
board).

(The teacher will post a problem on the board)

To solve this problem, let us first try to study this

map.

The number sentence was written sir.

In our example, what is the first step that was
performed Clarissa?

Very good Clarissa!

Numbers with the same sign were added sir.
And then what is the next step that was performed
Joane?

Very Nice observation Joan!

The numbers with different signs were subtracted sir.
And then what was the last step Luisa?

Exactly Luisa!

Okay let us have another example, this time we will

have a map with missing parts. You are going to
supply what is missing.

(The teacher will post a problem on the board)

(+55) + (+13) + (-5) = N

Henry please do the first step.

(+55) + (+13) + (-5) = N
Very good Henry! (+68) + (-5) = N

How about the nest step Virgie?

(+68) + (-5) = N
Good job Virgie! 63 = N
Sheila weighs 63 kg.
And the last step Darwin.

Excellent Darwin!

This time I am going to give you meta cards and you

are going to make your own example. I will only
give you 2 minutes to make your own example
(The teacher will hand over a meta card to each
student)

Please post your examples on the board

(The teacher will make sure that examples with the
same pattern will be classified into one group)

d. Generalization:
Teacher Student(s)
Class, try to look at where your examples right now.

What can you observe about the first diagram? The sign of the integers in our first diagram sir is
different. One is positive and the other is negative.

Very good observation Roselyn!

Therefore what rule can we generalize for our first In adding Integers with different signs,
diagram? How can we add two integers with subtract the integers and keep the sign of the
different signs? larger digit.

Excellent Bernard!

And based on our second diagram, how can we add In adding integers with the same signs,
two integers with the same sign? add the integers together and keep the sign.

Well done Luisa!

e. Valuing:
Teacher Student(s)
Why is saving important? Saving is important because this will provide us
emergency funds specially during unexpected times
f. Assessment:
Teacher Student(s)
Direction: Add the following integers.
1. (-25) + (+17) -8
2. (+73) + (-29) 44
3. (-89) + (-103) 192
4. (+194) + (+57) 251
5. (-217) + (+104) -113
6. (+63) + (-171) -108
7. (-13) + (+21) + (-17) -9
8. (+23) + (-34) + (-11) -22
9. (+9) + (-5) + (-2) +(8) 7
10. (-12) + (-43) + (+38) -17

g. Assignment:
Read and solve each problem.
1. Michael saved P600.00 in his wallet. For the last four weeks, he saved P100.00, P235.00,
P460.00, and P340.00. how much did he save in all?
2. In a game, each team receives 3 points for each correct answer and loses 1 point for each
incorrect answer. Rio’s team answered 7 questions correctly and 3 questions incorrectly. What
was the team’s final score?
