Free! Word Word for Kindergarten and First
This set has 10 pages of word work for K and 1st. It has 2 pages of each of the
following activities: match & write sight words, sight word word searches, fill in the
sight word sentences, making CVC words, and making words with blends/digraphs.
Several of the pages can be completed at school, cut into strips, and stapled
together to make a book to read again at home. The word search pages can be
laminated and used over and over in literacy centers. Thank you in advance for

This set addresses the following Common Core Standards* for


kindergarten and first grade:
RF.K.2.A,C,D,&E Recognize and produce rhyming words. Blend and segment onsets and rimes of single-syllable
spoken words. Isolate and pronounce the initial, medial vowel, and final sounds (phonemes) in three-phoneme
(consonant-vowel-consonant, or CVC) words.1 (This does not include CVCs ending with /l/, /r/, or /x/.) Add or
substitute individual sounds (phonemes) in simple, one-syllable words to make new words.
RF.K.3.A,B,C,&D Demonstrate basic knowledge of one-to-one letter-sound correspondences by producing the
primary sound or many of the most frequent sounds for each consonant. Associate the long and short sounds with the
common spellings (graphemes) for the five major vowels.Read common high-frequency words by sight (e.g., the, of,
to, you, she, my, is, are, do, does). Distinguish between similarly spelled words by identifying the sounds of the letters
that differ.
RF.K.4 Read emergent-reader texts with purpose and understanding.
RF.1.2A,B,&C Distinguish long from short vowel sounds in spoken single-syllable words. Orally produce single-
syllable words by blending sounds (phonemes), including consonant blends. Isolate and pronounce initial, medial
vowel, and final sounds (phonemes) in spoken single-syllable words.
RF.1.3A,B,&G Know the spelling-sound correspondences for common consonant digraphs. Decode regularly spelled
one-syllable words. Recognize and read grade-appropriate irregularly spelled words.
RF.1.4.A Read grade-level text with purpose and understanding.
L.K.1.A & L.1.1.A Print many upper- and lowercase letters.
L.K.2.C & D Write a letter or letters for most consonant and short-vowel sounds (phonemes).Spell simple words
phonetically, drawing on knowledge of sound-letter relationships.
L.1.2.D Use conventional spelling for words with common spelling patterns and for frequently occurring irregular
words.
