Properties of a Kite

I. Objectives

At the end of the lesson, 75 % of the students should be able to:

1. determine properties of a kite;
2. solve problems involving kites ; and
3. uses properties to find the measures of sides, angles and other quantities involving kites.

II. Learning Task

A. Subject Matter
1. Concept/Ideas: Kite is a quadrilateral with two pairs of congruent and adjacent sides.
2. Process/Skills: Solving problems involving kites using its properties.
3. Value Focus: Developing collaboration, patience and persistency
between the students.

III. Development Activities

Teacher’s Activity Students’ Response

A. Pre-Activity

1. Prayer

Good morning class! Good morning Sir!

Everybody stand, let us pray. (One student will lead the prayer).

Kindly pick up pieces of paper around Yes Sir. (The students will pick up pieces of
you and put it in the trash. paper).

Okay, you may sit down. Thank you Sir!

2. Review

Who can recall what we have (select a student to answer)

discussed last meeting? Last meeting we discussed about the
properties of an isosceles trapezoid.

Thank you.

What are the properties of a square? (select another student to answer)

The properties of an isosceles trapezoid are
the following:
a. The base angles are congruent.
b. Opposite angles are supplementary.
c. The diagonals of an isosceles
trapezoid are congruent.
Very Good! Thank you Sir.

Do you have any questions regarding None.

the last topic?

Now, on the board was a riddle. Who

wants to answer the riddle?

It has four legs but cannot walk. It has Kite!

no wings but can fly. Yes it can fly but
you need a very long tie. Made up of
two bones and a long tail and glides in
the air. What is it?

Very Good!

What do you think is our topic for About the properties of a kite.
today?

Very Good!

B. Activity Proper

Now, base on our previous discussion A kite is a quadrilateral with two pairs of
what do you think is kite? congruent and adjacent sides.

Very Good!

Refer to the illustration on the board.

Do kites have diagonals? Yes!

What are the diagonals of the kite 𝐵𝐷 𝑎𝑛𝑑 ̅̅̅̅

̅̅̅̅ 𝐴𝐶
𝐴𝐵𝐶𝐷?

Very Good!

Which sides are congruent? ̅̅̅̅

𝐴𝐵 ≅ ̅̅̅̅
𝐷𝐴 𝑎𝑛𝑑 ̅̅̅̅
𝐵𝐶 ≅ ̅̅̅̅
𝐶𝐷

Very Good!

What about congruent angles? ∠𝐷 ≅ ∠𝐵

Very Good!

I will divide you into two groups. Each (Students were divided into two groups)
group will be given activity sheets to
answer and there are also instructions ACTIVITY SHEET
in the activity sheet. Kindly read and
answer quietly. Kite – a quadrilateral with two pairs of
congruent and adjacent sides.
Theorem 1: In a kite, the perpendicular
bisector of at least one diagonal is the
other diagonal.
Theorem 2: The area of the kite is half
the product of the lengths of its diagonals.

Direction: Kindly answer the following

problems given the illustration of the kite NAMI.
1. What are the diagonals of kite NAMI?
2. What are the two congruent sides?
̅ = 5 𝑐𝑚, what is ̅̅̅̅
3. If 𝐼𝑆 𝑆𝐴?
̅̅̅ = 5 𝑐𝑚
4. What is the area of the kite if 𝐼𝐴
̅̅̅̅̅
and 𝑁𝑀 = 8 𝑐𝑚?
𝐼𝑀 = 2𝑥 + 3 and ̅̅̅̅̅
5. What is 𝑥 if ̅̅̅̅ 𝐴𝑀 = 𝑥 +
7?

Time’s up! Kindly present your works.

Very Good! (Giving of points to the

works of the students)
