Bass Guitar
The history of the bass guitar goes all the way back to around 1924. Basses were not
always in the form of a guitar. They were derived from the giant standing double bass. From
there, the Precision Bass was made, then the Jazz Bass, and then countless others. The history of
the Bass Guitar and its many different forms are very interesting.
The history of the electric Bass starts all the way back in 1924 when Lloyd Loar made the
electric Double Bass. People were already unsure of this bass because it was electric, and electric
basses weren’t very popular back then. People were fans of the classical and acoustic music.
(The 405) It wasn’t until 1951 when the first Bass Guitar which was called the Precision Bass,
The Precision Bass made its first debut in 1951, when Leo Fender came out with it. It
also got waves of backlash. People did not like that the Bass was no longer standing upright, and
they thought it went against music. (Sutton) The Precision Bass has earned the name “P Bass”.
(Joe)
The next Bass to come out was in the 1960’s. Fender came out with the Jazz Bass, or the
J Bass for short. It was not necessarily better or worse than its brother the P Bass. It was almost
50 dollars cheaper than the P Bass, at about 217 dollars. (Martin) It was met with less
controversy because people had been warming up to the idea of Bass Guitars.

In conclusion, the Bass has been thorough many years of controversy, and although it is
still one of the most underrated instruments in the band, it has come a long way from where it
has began.
