Title: Paper space and Model space

At the end of this activity, the student should be able to:

TLO#: Know the difference and uses of paper space and model space

I. INTRODUCTION:
There are two spaces in autocad namely paper space and model space. The
model space is where you place most of your drawings at a scale of 1:1. The
paper space is where you place your title blocks and viewports

II. PROBLEM:
1. How do you setup your paper space
2. How do you setup your model space

III. SOLUTION:

1. Choose one of the layouts then right click over


the layout tab
2. Choose page set up manager. This will open a
new pallette as shown. Click on modify to bring
another palette.(page setup palette)

3. Change the high lighted parts to the shown values.

4. Click ok
5. To be able to print the file press ctrl+p then ok then choose the destination folder
then save.

(SETTING UP YOUR VIEWPORTS AND TITLE BLOCKS)


1. Choose the paper size for your layout

2. Go to paper space delete the existing viewport

3. Draw a title block at a scale of 1:1.


Note: you can not snap on the borders of the paper so
try to estimate its location
4. Create a new layer in the layer properties manager
and in its plot setting set it to non plot by clicking on the
printer icon once you do this a no print icon will appear.
To be able to view the plot setting right click over the
upper tabs and make sure that plot is checked.

PLACE TITLE BLOCK HERE

(INSERTING A VIEWPORT)
1. Insert a viewport (view-viewports-choose any of the options then draw the
boundary)
Note:in placing the boundary of the viewport avoid snapping it to the borders of
your drawing sheet this allows you to easily select the borders of the viewport
Note: you can place as many viewports as you want at different scales
Note: avoid viewports that are overlapping
2. Manipulate the viewport at either the paper space or model space
3. Choose the viewport scale to be used and it is located at the lower right corner of
your screen
