SAVING ENERGY FOR OTHERS
What is EnergyAce
®

• is manufactured in the UK and is a highly efficient power

optimiser installed in series with the main incoming supply usually connected via
a circuit breaker and bypass switch arrangement.
®

• works by carefully controlling the voltage and reducing

the overall energy consumption of a site by reducing kw/h consumption without
detriment to plant and operations.
®
• is supplied as standard with a metering facility and an
option for web enabled monitoring software, you can monitor a sites power usage
form anywhere in the world via an internet connection

• is available with additional bolt on benefits to improve the

®

electrical efficiency to around 99% or better

®
• is available with additional bolt on benefits of Active
Harmonic Filtering to ensure a sites compliance with the latest Electricity Councils
recommendations regarding harmonic distortion

EnergyAce Voltage Optimisation – The Facts

The voltage can vary wildly across the UK dependant largely on where the site sits within the transmission grid, in the
UK, voltage supplies have been standardised for many years at 240V +/- 10% whereas European supply voltages have
been lower at 220V nominal.

Since June 2008 supplies have now been harmonised across UK and Europe at 230V (+/- 10%) i.e. 207 to 253V

However, the average voltage across the UK is 242V due mainly to the constraints of the supply networks resulting in
electrical equipment and plant operating well above the necessary voltage causing higher energy costs, excessive kw/h
losses and reduced life of electrical and electronic components.
®

By carefully controlling the voltage supplied to a premises or site by installing can yield
significant savings in the cost of operating electrical equipment without compromising the operational effectiveness of
plant and equipment.

A proven technique which has been understood for many years and reduces incoming voltage levels in a controlled way
is loosely termed as Voltage Optimisation.
Voltage
The graph shows that nominal and minimum
260 voltage requirements have fallen and this is where
the opportunity to reduce energy costs by reducing
250
voltage levels lies. It can be seen that the ideal
240 target voltage would be 220V depending on the
load and operational profile of electrical equipment

In 1996 The Institute of Electrical Engineers (IEE)

recommends that for safety, all electrical equipment
200 is tested across the range 198V to 253V and should

EnergyAce What to do next?

There is a simple four step process.
®

technology does not work as effectively on some types of load,

maximum savings are usually gained on the more common inductive and lighting loads generated
within an industrial or commercial environment and are less likely to return substantial savings on
resistive and VSD loads, it is therefore important to understand the load profile of each individual
site to ensure the predicted guaranteed savings are realised.

Power Efficient Systems Ltd have the knowledge and experience to analyse the relevant data,
identify significant savings and invite you to take this opportunity forward.

STEP
1 You send to us:
• Total kWh consumption – half hourly data in electronic format for the last
12 months (available form your electricity supplier)
• Last three electricity bills
• If possible the Sites voltage (measured)
We send to you:
• A report identifying potential savings and costs for each supply

STEP
2 If the outcome of Step 1 is to your liking, we will send you a single phase data
logger so that we can gather a trend of the voltage profile over a 1 week period.

STEP
3 On receipt of the returned data logger, we may request additional information
and visit your site in order to send you a detailed proposal and fixedinstallation
costs indicating the guaranteed savings available through the installation of
®

STEP 4
On receipt of an official order, our team will liaise with you to arrange for a mutually
convenient date for preliminary installation works to begin and plan a schedule of
works to minimise any potential inconvenience and shutdown of around 2 hours.
Lighting Circuit Energy Reduction
®

technology reduces energy across a number of disciplines as detailed

earlier although in some applications like Storage Facilities, Parking Facilities and Operations that
rely on a high degree of lighting, the main reduction in energy may be gained form optimising the
lighting circuits alone to maximise a return on the investment by targeting the areas that benefit the
most.

operates on the principal that it take a certain level of voltage

to strike / light a lamp and a much lower voltage to run a lamp with minimal or no detriment to the
lighting levels or Lux
®

the lighting power optimiser can be matched to the demands

of individual lighting circuits and is available for both single phase and three phase applications,
the technology is fully automatic and fully adjustable to enable the user to extract maximum savings
form this proven technology.

Maximum savings are usually gained on the more common types of lighting and while the technology
works on all types of lighting, it is less likely to return substantial savings on high frequency lighting
circuits.
