Introduction

Blue Tomorrow is a team of environmental scientists and strategic consultants that are dedicated to helping people and
organizations achieve their goals for a better environment.

Through field data collection services, Blue Tomorrow helps you collect important data about your environment. But
that’s only the first step. Using data analysis, spatial analysis, and modeling, Blue Tomorrow uncovers important
insights that allow you to make more informed decisions, communicate your organization’s impact to stakeholders, and
progress litigation efforts.

Blue Tomorrow begins every project with a meeting to understand the organization’s needs, objectives, and questions
they want answered. We work with you to scope the project to ensure that only necessary activities are undertaken.

If desired and needed, Blue Tomorrow’s team will also help secure project funding by identifying funding sources,
developing proposal material, and managing the grant application process.

Strategic Planning

Having a bird’s eye view of potential problems and systems

allows environmental justice advocates and natural resource
managers to pinpoint specific issues and understand where
concrete actions can be taken to mitigate for those issues.

Blue Tomorrow develops watershed assessments and sampling

plans to evaluate potential pollution types, sources, and
sampling strategies. We also perform climate change
adaptation plans to help clients understand the resources and
assets that are most vulnerable under a changing climate. With
this information, our clients are equipped with knowledge that
allows them to make informed decisions and build more
resilient communities.

Field Data Collection - Water Quality Sampling

Whether in the city, deep in the back country, or immediately

following a storm event, Blue Tomorrow’s team of
Environmental Scientists and Field Technicians can trek to just
about any water source.

Our team employs a range of tactics to ensure efficient

collection of water samples, including double sampling to
reduce the need for follow-up field visits and following
standardized and replicable sampling protocols. We collect
samples that can be tested for a range of pollutants (e.g.,
SVOCs, VOCs, metals, nutrient concentrations, etc.) and used in
a variety of settings, including compliance monitoring or
informing mitigation strategies.

• Sespe Oil Field Erosion Impacts Assessment | Los Padres ForestWatch
• North Ventura County Coastal Watersheds Assessment of Transported Metals | Rose Foundation 6
Field Data Collection - Air Quality Monitoring

Collecting local air quality data allows communities to monitor

their own environment, understand potential health risks, and
advocate for change.

Blue Tomorrow builds and deploys air quality monitors that

collect continuous particulate matter (PM), ozone (O3),
nitrogen dioxide (NO2), volatile organic compound (VOC), and
methane (CH4) data. Our monitors are connected to the
internet, which allows you to access air quality data in real-
time and share that information easily with stakeholders and
community members. We can also collect air samples that are
tested on a lab to capture more precise information about air
quality parameters.

• Southern California Tribal Monitoring Network | Pala Band of Mission Indians
• Arvin Air Quality Monitoring | Central California Environmental Justice Network 7
Toxicity Assessments

High pollutant concentrations can lead to toxicity concerns

depending on the exposure level to people, plants, and animals.

Blue Tomorrow’s team performs sampling to understand the

impact of pollutants on human populations and the
environment. Toxicity assessments can inform the public of
specific exposure risks, determine compliance status, or
support important litigation efforts. Past projects have involved
sampling for toxic metal concentrations in water and mussel
samples.

Data and Spatial Analysis
Once data is collected, our team turns that information into insights that
you can use to inform health risks, make important resource
management decisions, or determine potential liability.

Data analysis involves performing various statistical analyses and

summarizing findings in graphs or charts. Often, however, the data has a
spatial component allowing us to use geographic information systems
(GIS), when appropriate, to analyze changes across the landscape or
visualize the location of important attributes.

Modeling

In some instances, collecting and analyzing data may not be

enough and so we model the system or process of interest.

The modeling performed by our team allows you to predict the

outcome of an event (e.g. the release of a pollutant) without
the event actually occurring. Modeling can be a powerful tool
for understanding the probability of a flooding event, linking a
pollutant to its source, or determining the vulnerability of
infrastructure to an extreme event.

Communications and Outreach

We understand that a successful project is more than just

collecting data, running models, and making some graphs. The
information we generate is only powerful if it is effectively
communicated to the appropriate stakeholders.

Blue Tomorrow’s staff of environmental scientists are also

effective and passionate communicators. Sharing project
findings with you and your stakeholders in ways that lead to
actionable next steps make a project successful. We use
multiple mediums for communicating the importance of a
project and its findings, including facilitating community
meetings, developing outreach surveys, or enabling
community participation in data collection and analysis.

• Lost Hills Air Monitoring and Emissions Reduction| Clean Water Fund 11
Communications & Outreach

One of the ways we build community involvement into

projects is through customized websites that display real-
time air quality data collected by our monitors. By
mapping air quality information, community members
are better informed of potential health risks as they
change through time and space.
