VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

GIRLS ON THE RUN PROGRAM is in need of five responsible high school


students who can help out in their offices in Fairfax on October 27 from 2 –
5 p.m. and November 3 & 4 from 4 – 7 p.m. If interested call Kathy Washa
at 703-209-8572.

GLORIES’ HAPPY HATS needs high school student volunteers to be


trained to help with the assembly line part of making hats for children at
Children’s Hospital in DC. Contact Katie Clinton, director of FCCPS
daycare for more information.

STUDENT CONSERVATION ASSOCIATION is looking for high school


students, age 15-19, to serve on a conservation crew for 3-5 weeks in the

SENIOR WORKSHEET & PARENT BRAG SHEET

The senior worksheet & parent brag sheet is now in PDF format and can be
filled in online. Go to the counseling homepage, scroll down to College
App Process, click on the links and begin typing. Please get these
completed forms to your counselor and recommenders ASAP.

• Request & track transcripts on Naviance
• Check for supplements on Common Application
• Submit CSS Profile, if necessary, beginning October 1
• Read College/Career Update
• Sign up for college visits in Naviance
• Send official SAT/ACT scores to colleges
INFORMATION FOR SENIORS…
• If you are considering applying EARLY DECISION and you haven’t
had an appointment with Mrs. Bracken in the College/Career Center
this year, please contact her, ASAP, to set up a meeting.

• Seniors will be receiving College/Career Center passes through their


3rd block class. If you are unable to keep a scheduled appointment,
please let Mrs. Bracken know so she can give your meeting time to
another senior.

• Are you applying to a private college? Does the school require that
you fill out the CSS PROFILE? If it is required and you are interested
in being considered for financial aid, go to www.collegeboard.com .
This financial aid form may be submitted beginning October 1, 2010.

• Scholarship Nomination Form may be found on the Counseling


website. Click on Counseling Page and scroll down to College App
Process. Return completed form to Mrs. Bracken.

• Academic Common Market .. Are you interested in a college major


that is not offered at any Virginia State school? If so, go to
www.schev.edu/students/academiccommonmkt.asp to find out if you
can get in-state tuition at an out-of-state school.

• Common Application..save yourself lots of time by determining if the


schools to which you are applying accept the Common App. Go to
www.commonapp.org .

ACT, SAT OR NEITHER…As you begin your college search, make sure
to pay attention to standardized test requirements for admission. Many
colleges and universities are eliminating the need to take the standardized
tests (go to www.fairtest.org) or asking for a combination of SAT and IB or
AP tests. Criteria changes from year to year and school to school so be
sure you know what is required before you apply.
