Hydraulic Track Adjusters

Disassemble & Assemble Hydraulic Track Adjusters

Start By:

a. remove front idlers, recoil springs and hydraulic track adjusters

1. Remove the recoil spring and the hydraulic track adjuster, as a unit, from the front idler. Refer to the topic
"Remove & Install Front Idlers, Recoil Springs & Hydraulic Track Adjusters" in this module.

2. Fasten a hoist to the recoil spring and the hydraulic track adjuster. Put the unit in a vertical position with
the hydraulic track adjuster facing up. The combined weight of the recoil spring and the hydraulic track
adjuster is 95 kg (210 lb).

3. Fasten a lifting sling and a hoist to the hydraulic track adjuster. Slowly lift the hydraulic track adjuster out
of the recoil group.

4. Remove two O-ring seals (2), two rings (3) and two rings (4) from the grooves in piston assembly (1).
5. Remove two bolts (5) and guard plate (6) from the piston assembly.

6. Remove relief valve (7) and fill valve (8) from the piston assembly.

&OTE: The following steps are for the assembly of the hydraulic track adjuster.

7. Thoroughly clean all parts of the hydraulic track adjuster prior to assembly. Check the condition of O-ring
seals (2), rings (3) and rings (4). If any of the components are worn or damaged, use new parts for
replacement.

8. Install relief valve (7) and fill valve (8) in the piston assembly. Tighten each valve to a torque of 34 ± 5
&*m (25 ± 4 lb ft).

9. Install guard plate (6) and two bolts (5) that hold it.
 &OTICE
To ensure correct operation of the hydraulic track adjuster, O-ring
seals (2), rings (3) and rings (4) must be install in the correct positions
in the grooves in piston (8).

&OTE: To distinguish the difference between rings (3) and (4), check their color. Rings (3) are brown in
color. Rings (4) are black in color.

10. Put clean 5P-0960 Multipurpose Grease in the grooves in piston assembly (1). Install O-ring seals (2),
rings (3) and rings (4) in the grooves of the piston, as shown. Turn rings (3) and (4) in the grooves until the
split in the rings are 180 degrees apart.

11. Thoroughly clean the inside diameter of the recoil group. Put a thin coat of 5P-0960 Multipurpose
Grease on the inside of the recoil group.

12. Put a thin coat of 5P-0960 Multipurpose Grease on piston assembly (1). Install the hydraulic track
adjuster in the recoil group.

13. Connect the recoil spring and the hydraulic track adjuster to the front idler. Refer to the topic "Remove &
Install Front Idlers, Recoil Springs & Hydraulic Track Adjusters" in this module.
