UV Printing

Training Guide
UV Printing
• UV offset printing is similar to conventional
offset, but the ink dries through a different
process

• Conventional inks dry or cure through their

binding agents oxidizing and being absorbed
into the substrate

• UV inks are specially formatted and dry

through a photomechanical process – when
the inks are exposed to UV light they turn from
a liquid to a solid hardening instantly with
much less absorption into the substrate

Paris’ Capabilities
• Prime UV units have been installed on
our 45” wide 2-Color Hamilton Press

• The Prime UV system allows us to print
be taken during training
and cure vivid color on both sides of the
web, inline, with no worry of offset

• Expanded selection of substrates to

include coated, digital inkjet and super
calendared papers

Benefits of UV Printing
• Cures instantly
• No extra dry time – paper can be processed immediately with no worry of offset or scratching
• No tracking will occur when a UV printed sheet is run through a digital printer/press

• UV inks can be used on a wide variety of substrates

• UV inks bond to just about any substrate because they are not absorbed into the substrate
• Available stocks: coated, digital inkjet, uncoated & recycled papers

• Produces vivid color and vibrant detail

• Because the UV ink is not absorbed into the substrate it presents a cleaner, sharper and more
saturated print even on uncoated, untreated sheets

• There is no post-cure dryback

• UV inks will not fade, there is no loss of color overtime

• It is a “Green” low emission process

• UV inks are 100% solvent free and do not result in the emission of VOCs (Volatile Organic
Compounds)
• UV inks do not contain HAPs (Hazardous Air Pollutants)

Recycling of UV Printed Paper

• Printing of UV Inks on paper DOES NOT present

problems for paper recycling

• UV inks act similar to conventional offset inks in a paper

pulping plant as they are water soluble and easily
separated

• UV printed paper can be recycled into tissue and/or fine

paper grades using commercially available equipment
