Addendum- Parts Numbering, Part Naming, and Parts Structure

Parts Nomenclature and Structure for Expanded Mining Products in NextGen SIS
(NGS) differ from what exists in SIS Web today. Migrated Expanded Mining Parts
Nomenclature can be different between Product Families as well. NGS contains both
Cat and legacy mining systems part numbers.

Parts Numbering
NextGen SIS (NGS) contains both Cat part numbers (part type AA) and legacy mining
system parts (part type BE). Legacy mining system part numbers have numerous different
structures. Cat part numbers follow traditional Cat formatting of two digits, hyphen, four
digits(xx-xxxx) or three digits, hyphen, four digits(xxx-xxxx).

**Note** It is important to include the hyphen when searching for a Cat part number in NGS.
Not including the hyphen may return an incorrect part or no part at all.

Parts Naming
Part names in NextGen SIS follow varying naming conventions depending on the origin of
the parts information. Legacy parts (BE types) have several different naming conventions.
Cat parts (AA types) will follow standard Cat naming conventions. When a part name is not
sufficiently descriptive, users can utilize Supersession to assist with parts identification.

**Note** Blue text always indicates a clickable link to additional information. This includes
when a part number is blue on a part list.

Finding Supersession History for a Top Level part requires adding the part to the Shopping Cart. From
the Shopping Cart, a user can access the supersession tab by clicking the “i” button for a Top Level
part. In the below example the superseded parts provide a better description than the current part
name.

Part Structure
Migrated Expanded Mining parts information has hierarchy relationships similar to what Cat
traditional parts have, just not to the same depth. The “View Parts List Structure” for most
products in NextGen SIS (NGS) will display these relationships. In the example below under
Hydraulic System, we have mostly Cat part types (hyphenated, seven digit p/n). Notice that
these relationships are multiple layers deep.

Legacy Expanded Mining parts data does not align with Cat traditional standards. It does not
have product structure in the system categories.

**Note** The hierarchy in Parts List Structure can also aid with non-descriptive part names. Looking at
the next higher levels for a part can assist with part determination.
