DENGUE FEVER

Yunita : “Good Morning Doctor.”

Doctor : “Good Morning.”

Yunita : “Soory doc, may I have a few minute of your time please?”

Doctor : “Oh oke no problem. What can I do for you?”

Yunita : “Thankyou doc. Can I have a moment to chat with you about health issue in

the hospital?”

Doctor : “Ohh yes I can.”

Yunita : “Oke first. May I know your good name please?”

Doctor : “My name is Putri Widya, you can call me Doctor Putri.”

Yunita : “Oke Doctor Putri, and than my name is Yunita Dewi Yanti, you can call me

Yunita. I’m student from Nursing Departement of Polytechnic of Health

Denpasar. And than may I know, what as your specialist in this hospital?”

Doctor : “I’m as general practitioners in this hospital.”

Yunita : “Oh okey Doctor. May I know your opinion what is the booming disease in

Public now?”

Doctor : “I think that is Dengue Fever, because this month already will enter the rainy

Season certainly many people who suffer from dengue.”

Yunita : “Usually, how many people with dengue fever during the rainy season?”

Doctor : “Uncertain, usually that is booming in the hospital.”

Yunita : “Wooow… I think the disease is only common disease.”

Doctor : “No..no..no.. This is a disease that often booming during the rainy season and

can cause the death.”

Yunita : “Woow that is terrible. So can you explain to me about dengue fever?”
Doctor : “Dengue (pronounced Dengee) fever is a painful, debilitating mosquito-
borne disease caused by any one of four closely related dengue viruses.
Dengue fever is transmitted by the bite of an Aedes mosquito infected with a
dengue virus. The mosquito becomes infected when it bites a person with
dengue virus in their blood. It can’t be spread directly from one person to
another person.

Yunita : “And that what is the cause of dengue fever?”

Doctor : “The cause is the environment that is dirty and not clean, because there are
many puddles of water into larvae or mosquito nest.

Yunita : “What are the signs and symptoms of dengue fever?”

Doctor : “Whole body chills, high fever, severe headaches, pain behind the eyes,
severe joint and muscle pain, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, skin rash, which
appears two to five days after the onset of fever, mild bleeding (such a nose
bleed, bleeding gums, or easy bruising.”

Yunita : “When did the signs and symptoms of dengue fever can appear?”

Doctor : “Symptoms which usually begin four to six days after infection and last for
up to 10 days.”

Yunita : “Can a person suffering from dengue fever without symptoms?”

Doctor : “Ohh yeaah.. There are many people who are infected by the virus but don’t
show signs or symptoms of disease. For any patient with signs and
symptoms of dengue virus infection. There may be 4 to 5 people with no
symptoms or experience only mild symptoms.”

Yunita : “How about the treatment? Can be cured?”

Doctor : “There is no specific treatment for dengue fever. Antibiotics can’t help.
Paracetamol is the drug of choice to reduce the feverand joint pain. Other
drugs such as aspirin and brufen should be avoided because it may increase
the risk of bleeding. Doctors must be careful when prescribing medicines.”

Yunita : “Is there a vaccine to prevent dengue fever?”

Doctor : “Vaccine have been made to prevent dengue fever but is still in the testing
phase. As of yet marketed. Advances in technology will help prevent dengue
fever by vaccination in the next few years.”

Yunita : “So what should the doctor to handle dengue?”

Doctor : “Patients suspected of dengue hemoragic fever or dengue shock syndrome

should be hospitalized immediately, without delay.”

Yunita : “In a state of booming or dengue epidemic, what is our strategy?”

Doctor : “You can be made by 3 method that is draining,closing, and burying a

sources of stagnant water. And can also be done by “thermal fogging” using
a spray machine (fogging) which is able to era-dicate adult musquitoes. The
main strategy in the prevention and control of dengue is “the source negates”
or eliminate breeding grounds for mosquitoes.”

Doctor : “Okey, you are welcome.”
