Week 1 – Context

This week I have been working towards my brief. On Tuesday we had the brief for FMP, we
were told all the rules for each type of production (Short Film, Music Video, Factual
Programme). I started my proposal on Tuesday after the brief. I originally had an idea for a
music video, a 10-minute 2018 mashup by Andy Wu. I’ve
wanted to do a music video for my final major project
for over a year and when I heard this mashup, I knew
that this was the song. When I looked at the brief I saw
that I would have to make a short film with it to
continue the story but because the music video was 10
minutes, I was going to have 5 separate stories within it.
I had to think for a while for another idea and it was my
mum who had the idea of making a factual programme
about Home-Education. I then thought back to my
documentaries in first year and the reason they were
successful was because they were a subject that I knew a
lot of information about (Miniature, Mental Health).
After making my proposal, I then made a rough draft of
my production schedule which I will be adding to along
the way, I also made my bibliography which will be added to as well.

On Wednesday, I had to come up with three ideas to send out in a survey and the
respondents would vote for their favourite idea.
The voted choice was the Home-Education documentary,
with 60%. I then finalised my idea in my detail.
After I analysed the results, I started to research into
Competition that I would enter my documentary in. I
chose The UK Film Festival, they offer two categories that
I could enter in, Best Student Film (£25) and Best
Documentary (£40). At least then I have more variety on
which category I can enter in.

I then moved on to my brief, I knew how to make a brief, as I had to make one for FMP in
first year. I found it quite easy and straight forward to do, as I’d already researched it and
now I just had to put it all into the brief. I
made it colourful with a header that I made.
I made this on Canva, I wanted there to be
an element of learning on it as well as the
homeschool with a character for the home.
The brief was very simple,
and I knew how to make it
interesting to other
documents that might
not be so different.
