The table below shows a pavement condition survey for sample unit 07, section JPB-
KM2 of Jalan Parit Botak. Determine the Pavement Condition Index for this sample
unit.

(1) Determine the Distress Density and Deduct Value

13 M = 0.17
100*(2.8/100)
0.8 1.2 0.3 0.5 2.8 2
10 L = 2.80
100*(2.2/100)
0.7 1.1 0.4 2.2 6
10 M = 2.20

(2) Maximum allowable number of deducts, m

Highest deduct value, HDV = 45

m = 1 + (9/98)(100 – HDV)
= 1 + (9/98)(100 – 45)
= 6.05

Deduct values in descending order: 45, 32, 13, 7, 6, 6, 2

Number of deduct values = 7

Since the maximum allowable number of deducts is 6.05, therefore only the first 6
and 0.05 of the 7th deduct value are selected, i.e. 45, 32, 13, 7, 6, 6 and 0.05*2 = 0.1.

(3) Maximum corrected deduct value, CDV

Number of deduct values greater than 2, q = 6

Total deduct value = 45 + 32 + 13 + 7 + 6 +6 + 0.1 = 109

From Figure B-45, CDV = 56

Reduce the smallest individual deduct value to 2 (q is now 5) and determine the CDV.

Repeat until q reaches 1.

No. Deduct Values Total q CDV

45 32 13 7 6 6 0.1 109.1 7

45 32 13 7 6 6 109 6 56

6

Maximum CDV = 60

(4) Determine the Pavement Condition Index

PCI = 100 – CDVmax

= 100 – 60
= 40

Based on the rating for PCI value of 40, this section of pavement is in poor condition.
