Notes have a name and a picture. Sometimes notes also have a sharp or a flat. William R. Beyer

1. Key signatures can consist of flats or sharps and change notes on the corresponding lines throughout the entire
piece of music.

2. Key signatures can have as many as seven flats, seven sharps, or nothing at all!

This key signature has two flats. This key signature has nothing. This key signature has one sharp.
All B's are Bb's. Everything is played without a flat or sharp. All F's are F#'s.
All E's are Eb's.

1. Accidentals change notes beyond the key signature.


2. Accidentals can be sharps (#, raises the note), flats (b, lowers the note) or naturals (µ, cancels a flat/sharp in the
key signature or a previous accidental).
